My fellow Nairalander, i bring 2 you my problem. It is said your brother can't put on a masquerade and u run into the bush, that is i would not have doctors, nurse, parents and well educated people on Nairaland and my problem is yet solved.

My son is Six months plus, he vomits, defecates almost every 30mins or so, has fever. But when d mother took him 2 d hospital she was told he wants to start growing teeth. They (hospital) wrote drugs like babyrex, amoxil, paracetamol, teething powder and d rest but d boy still hasn't gotten back himself.
Please can u kindly advice me on what 2 give him cos he has lost a lot of weight.
I appreciate your response and advise.
Thanks

Op,I understand how u feel, been there several times.

Follow the doctor's prescriptions and ORS--it is very important he takes enough liquid.

Make ORS and put in a neat water bottle for him to drink.

Aside teething, pls CLEAN environment matters-kus he might probably be reacting to what he put into his mouth from the floor when u were not looking

Then,RELAX-he will pass through the stage

But don't forget--ORS.

Please take him back to the hospital. A good one this time. He may need to be admitted to get IV fluids if he is vomiting and stooling so frequently. The biggest problem is that he is dehydrated and that can cause major internal organ problems if it's severe. If you can get him to drink lots of ORS(oral rehydration solution) and not vomit it back up, he will do fine provided he is not loosing all of it back through stooling. If not, he may need fluids through an IV and you should take him to the doctor. If he is truly vomiting and stooling as frequently as you said, it will be hard for you to rehydrate him at home with the ORS.

Good luck.

@OP please if you are still having doubts and did not see improvement in the next 12hrs, look for the nearest children hospital and take your baby there.

Forgive me but are these not symptoms of ebola?

Teething don't cause these. It's just myths peddled by illiterates. Get your baby to another Doctor. And check your house for mould and damp. And I know you are in Nigeria, but those medication are too much, kilode!

Op, my son had the same problem few months back, took him to the hospital n he was given some drugs that did little or nothing to improve his health, it was a doctor friend that advice me to get the child Augmentine suspension, ors and zinc tablets . He got better within hours n up til now,no more stooling and vomitting.
Oh BTW, my son is 3,so if u are getting the drugs,u have to tell the pharmacist your baby's age. He will be fine in Jesus name!

That is a very silly comment to make. If it were to be your own child, would you have said such.

OP, you need to seek for second opinion, if you are, obviously, not comfortable with the hospital's treatment, take him to a children's hospital as suggested. Vomiting and frequent stooling is not good for children, and should be addressed immediately.
