Yeah, we know it might be hard for him to get but make him try first. When i was considering to apply ppl told me i cant be accepted with my HND, but I applied anyway. The rest is history. CGPA is very important but trust me other criteria like work experience/CV, recommendations from ur school prof, LOI etc also count.

Yes, mun asked me for toefl last week Friday, after series of emails and arguments to waive it for me, I called the assistant registrar and he said Nigeria is a complicated country with plenty languages. That even though our language of instruction in schools is English, we don't speak it outside the classroom and in personal/social interaction - that's exactly what he said... I just fashied the school.
Bro are you for UG or PG? Wana knw if it affects PG applicants. Thanks

My man, the best advice for gbemislow is to focus on a College doing Chemical Engineering Technology and it will even be a bit difficult to get a College immediately but he will get one if he packages his application very well...let him save himself time and leave universities out for now considering the low CGPA.

The major factor that schools consider to admit a 2.2 candidate into Masters directly is Years of related work experience or a good performance in ur last 2 years of UG study believing you've gone into ur area of specialization by then (depends on the school though)...3rd class is completely out of it bro...

See you in Canny soon...

... Please don't say that again ooo...

This what pchax wrote yesterday.
The concept is to convert your 5 point cgpa to a 4 point scale. Use the formula below:
(X/5) * 4 = y
Where, X is your 5 point scale cgpa
Y is your X converted to a 4 point scale which Canada uses.
E.g if u finish with 3.0 out of possible 5, then
(3/5) * 4 = 2.6
Peace
Baba it is not as direct as that ooo... Of course, that is a simple way to convert but grading systems are different. They have the A , A, A-, B and what have you and each of those grades carry different weights. While in Nigeria it is just the plain A, B,C,D etc. A professor there once told me that a Nigerian 3.50/5.00 is roughly equivalent to their own 3.2/4.0. But if we do the maths normally a Nigerian 3.50/5.00 is equivalent to 2.80/4.00.
So my advise to the OP is to check the departmental site of all his interested Uni's. Some have different countries and their grade point conversion scales. Some just look at your last 2 years course and check out the number of As and Bs.
In summary, grade point conversion is not as easy as it seems. Cheers!

I think we should stop giving people false hope. How many Nigerian univerities accept 3rd class graduates into their masters program? Least of all Canada....haba

such can go thru the PG diploma route, I suppose. And that is the hope in it all.

to proceed in your studies, please try and get admitted to PGD first. From there, you can find your bearing. All the best

As in eh! As USD dey rise CAD follow rise too. Na naira dey misbehave jare. This is no goodnews to Nigerian intl students or Nigerians abroad wey neva convert their naira
Re: Travelling To Canada Part 6 by teesboy: 9:19am On Nov 26, 2014
Hello house. I would advise anyone who wishes to know what their CGPA would convert to on a Canadian 4.0 scale to visit www.wes.org canada site and click on the iGPA calculator and take the time to input ur grades(alphabet) and credit hours and when you finish you get your naija cgpa converted to Canada 4.0 scale. It is just a suggestion though so that you don't waste application fees unnecessarily.
