beginning with King George I, Germans have been sitting on the English throne since 1714. in 1917, King George V, changed the family German name from "House of Saxe Coburg and Gotha" to the English sounding "House of Windsor" bc the English people who were fighting the first world war against Germans were uncomfortable with their King having German names. Nigeria is a name formed by the british to describe the (river)Niger-Area. the real founding father (or founding couple) of nigeria are non-nigerias the amalgamation of northern and southern protectorates of nigeria was purely for the purposes of enhancing the business interests of the royal niger company the first time indigenes of the new united colony addressed themselves as Nigerians, the british were not comfortable with it. they didnt like the growing nationalism and self awareness of the people. .. . . . .and true to their fears, talk of independence came up within a decade of that era the first europeans to come to nigeria were the Portuguese, who came in the 15th century and did business with the Oba of Benin. they were amazed by the Bini empire. one of the Obas of Bini was banished by the british and he died in "exile" (died in calabar, and was buried there) the people of Oguta, in Imo state were Bini citizens who, centuries ago, were banished by the Oba, they crossed the niger and settled in present day oguta in imo state. they have been "igbolized" over the centuries though they still share some words in their dialect with the edo language. . . like they have the same/similar names for God. . . . .
