Carrie Marshall had recently joined the Riverside police force,
and on the first day of her job, she was sent out to investigate a
new homicide case. The murder involved a wealthy bachelor,
Steven Andrews, who lived in an expensive, grand oceanside
mansion. At the time of the murder, there had been five other
people in the house: the cook, the maid, two friends, and his
niece. Both the cook and maid had rooms in the mansion, and
the three guests had all stayed overnight.

When Carrie got to the mansion, the five suspects had all been
lined up in front of a large bay window. It was mid-afternoon,
and through the window, Carrie could see the beautiful sunset.
Her partner, Lieutenant Linda Newton, who had arrived an hour
earlier, sketched out the details for Carrie.

All the suspects had
agreed that Steven Andrews had been found murdered in the
morning, shortly before six-thirty A.M, but he had been alive a
few minutes past midnight, when they all headed to bed.
Nobody had heard anything during the night. Mandy Andrews,
the niece, had come down to the kitchen to get a glass of water,
and on her way back upstairs, had passed the bay window,
where she saw her uncle's dead body.
Carrie decides to begin interrogating the suspects as the
lieutenant and two other officers go off to look for more
evidence and clues.

The suspects give the following
testimonies:

Maid: "I retired to my room shortly past eleven last night, after
cleaning the dining room where Mr. Andrews dined with his
guests, and helped the cook put away the leftover food. I was
reading a novel until about twelve-twenty, and heard occasional
laughter and talk, although I couldn't make out the words. This
morning, I heard a scream, which was from Miss Mandy, so I
rushed down with the cook and his two friends. Mr. Andrews
was laying dead in front of that window. The lieutenant moved
his body about fifteen minutes before you arrived, but there was
blood on the side of the head, from a gunshot, maybe. I didn't
hear anything, but whoever did it could have used a muffler. I'm
innocent, though."

Cook: "It's like the maid says. She was cleaning the dining room
while I tidied up the kitchen, and we both stored the leftovers in
the refrigerator and talked for a few minutes about his guests. I
went upstairs and to my room about the same time she did, but
fell asleep after I took a shower and brushed my teeth. That was
about eleven-thirty maybe, and I slept soundly until this
morning, when a scream woke me. I rushed downstairs with the
others, and there was the body. I tell you, I didn't do it. I've been
with Mr. Andrews for eight years, and he knows he can trust
me."

Mandy: "I was up until midnight with my uncle and his friends,
talking and joking around. I fell asleep at about one-fifteen, but
woke at six-twenty-four, and was thirsty, so I went down to the
kitchen to get a glass of water. On the way back, I passed by the
bay window, the one behind us, and I could see the beautiful
sunrise outside, but, sadly, my uncle was sprawled on the
ground, with a huge bloody wound on the side of his head. I
screamed and the others were here in just one or two minutes."
"That's enough," Carrie said abruptly, before the two friends of
Mr. Andrews can say anything. "I know who did it. Lieutenant!
We have our murderer!"

All five suspects, and the lieutenant and her two men, who came
into the room at her call, look at Carrie.

Who murdered Steven Andrews, and how did Carrie know?

Okay
MANDY is the KILLER

U guys were right...buh with weak evidence...here is the proof that she killed him

Mandy killed her uncle. It was afternoon when Carrie looked
out the bay window and saw the sunset, so the window must
have been facing the west. However, Mandy claimed to have
seen the sunrise through that same window, but the sun rises in
the east.so she fumbled and lied, never knowing she did be caught !!!...

U all tried...maybe u get the next one

Hmmm. I never thought of it that way
I thought it was because she lied about the time of arrival of the others. She said when she screamed it took others 1-2mins which contradicts the statements of others that said they rushed out immediately.

"Who shot her?" cried Rogers as he rushed into the hospital
three minutes after his ex-wife died from a bullet through her
head.

"Just a minute, Mr. Rogers," said Professor Stiggins. "We'll have
to ask you a few questions-routine, you know. Although
divorced for the past six months, you have been living in the
same house with your ex-wife, have you not?"
"That's right," replied Rogers.
"Had any trouble recently?"
"Well, yesterday, when I told her I was going on a business trip,
she threatened to commit suicide. In fact, I grabbed a bottle of
iodine from her as she was about to drink it. When I left last
evening at seven, however, telling her I was spending the night
with friends in Sewickley, she made no objection. Returning to
town this afternoon," continued Rogers, "I called my home and
the maid answered."
"Just what did she say?" inquired Stiggins.

"'Oh, Mr. Rogers, they took poor mistress to St. Ann's Hospital
'bout half an hour ago. Please hurry to her.'

"She was crying, so I couldn't get anything else out of her; then
I hurried here. Where is she?"
"The nurse will direct you," said Stiggins with a nod.

"A queer case, this, Professor," said Inspector Kelley. "These
moderns are a little too much for me, I'm afraid. A man and
woman living together after being divorced six months!"

"A queer case indeed, Inspector," mused the professor, "and
you'd better detain Mr. Rogers. If he didn't shoot her himself,
I'm confident he knows who did."

Why did the professor advise the
Inspector to detain Rogers?

Detective Derek was reviewing notes on the murder of Mr.
Moore as he was heading to the police station to interrogate the
suspects. The victim was Mr. Moore, a very powerful
billionaire. He was shot square in the forehead around 11:00 PM
the previous day. Mr. Moore had 3 sons, Bob, Jack, and John,
who were possible suspects. These sons were strapped for
money so each had a motive for killing Mr. Moore.

As Derek entered the police station, he was led to the
interrogation room where he met two of the sons, Bob and Jack.

He heard out their testimonies.

"Jack and I decided to hang out
with our old man," said Bob. "My dad, Jack, and I went to a
restaurant about 15 minutes away. We came back around 11. As
we entered the mansion, John, out of nowhere, started running
toward the mansion. It startled Jack and me, but my dad hadn't
noticed because he was a bit drunk. When I noticed John had a
gun, I tried to warn my dad but John shot him before my dad
could even turn around and look at him."
Detective Derek asked, "Jack, do you confirm his testimony?"
Jack replied, "Yes."

Detective Derek then said, "Because you have lied to me, you
two are both prime suspects in the murder of Mr. Moore."

How did Derek know Jack and Bob were lying and were
involved in the murder?

Re: Brain Teasers by devilmaycry: 8:48am On May 29, 2015
Detective Donald investigated the scene of the crime.
Apparently, the fifth richest man in Crimeville, Bill Richman,
had been kidnapped! The only thing at the scene was a note left,
no doubt, by Bill Richman while he was being kidnapped. It
read, "First of January, Fourth of October, Fifth of March, and
Third of June." Detective Donald knew this note was accusing
the kidnapper. He had to decide which one it was, out of:

Jack Richman, Bill Richman's son and heir,

John Jacobson, Richman's employee, or
June Richman, Bill's wife.

Detective Donald discovered what the note meant, and promptly
told the authorities who it was.

What did the note mean and who was it ??

Having arrested John Jacobson, the man who kidnapped Bill
Richman, a party was held in Detective Donald's honor.
However, to test Donald's smarts, Bill Richman sent Donald this
paper:

Dear Donald,
To get to the party, drive to Green Road, where there will be a
row of eleven houses that look exactly the same. One of them is
my house. Which one, you ask? Well, you'll have to find out
with these clues:

My house is not the one on the left.
I have exactly two neighbors.
Do not enter the third one, because it's not my house.
Don't enter the ninth one either.
Lose the thought of entering the three houses on the very right.
Erase the thought of entering the houses on the left, too.
Okay, enough hints. Which house do I live in? If you think
there's not enough clues, think again!

^^^ what I don't understand from those clues is the left and right distinction. If you have eleven houses lined up in a single row on a street, where will u get d distinction of houses on the left and the very right? undecided
