That score is good for uniport considering that jamb performance keeps dwindling yearly.
However, uniport usually combines scores of both post ume and jamb and gets the average. Hence she'd need to get a very high score in the post ume.
tnx my dear, but can u ansa d oda question ,tnx

To answer that, I must perforce state that Uniport does not do direct entry into medical school. Previously, uniport graduates of basic medical sciences who graduate with 2.1 above, usually cross over to medicine and continue from year three. But it's stopped now. Some other schools accept direct entry.

Primaries mean the exam u take that leads to the specialty of ur choice. It is usually written after housejob or service, and depends on the specialty of interest...

CGPA is NOT used in medical school, we use progressive assessment (PA) which is like a percentage, in unilorin, u must make PA of 50% in all subjects before u can be promoted.

Textbooks are numerous, however, these are the few I can give u..

200L and 300L: anatomy
Clinically oriented anatomy by keith moore
Embryology by TM sadler
Basic histology (can't remember the author's name)

Physiology
Review of medical physiology by WF gannong
OR
Physiology by guyton and hull

Biochemistry
Harper's illustrated biochemistry

400L
Pathology
Robbins pathologic basis of disease
(U can also buy textbooks in haematology, microbiology and chemical pathology)

Pharmacology
Lippincott's pharmacology
OR
Katzung's pharmacology

500 and 600L
Paediatrics
Nelson's textbook of paediatrics
OR
Paediatrics by azubike (nigerian author)

Obstetrics and gynaecology
The ten teachers O & G
OR
Textbook of O & G by agoola (nigerian author)

Medicine
Medicine by kumar and clark
Hutchinson's clinical methods (for clerking patients)

Surgery
Bailey and love short practice of surgery
Churchill's pocket textbook of surgery (for exam stuff)
Norman browse surgical methods (for clerking patients)

NB: these books are TERRIBLY expensive, so when u get them, guard them with ur life!!!!!

CHEERS!!

Bros, na here u dey?

Good day,

I graduated with a 2.1 Parasitology and Entomology in 2007. I wanted to study Medicine but could not proceed then due to financial issues. Is it possible for me to get a DE into any university for medicine now?

I'm in 3rd year & studying in Ghana but I'll probably return to Nigeria to practise. Do I have to do my housemanship in Nigeria or take any exams before I can practise there?

HI.

I am a final year med student of UNILORIN. I opened this thread cos I noticed there isn't any that is specially for medical students, and I believe this is an opportunity for all docs in the making to meet, chat, share experiences, ask questions, and even make new friends!

Jambitos who wish to study medicine are also welcome...

So, let the clerking and presentation begin!!!!

It is much possible if you are still passionate about it.To start with which school do you have in mind? Are you aware that the sale of DE form ends by 27th of this month? Please reply to the questions let me know how to guide from here. For the record,I am a 500L medical student in UNN who got into medicine via DE some years after my first degree. So you can if your passion is alive.

Before u can practice or do your housemanship In Nigeria, you have to take and pass the licensing exam by MDCN. You will be given a provisional license to enable you do ur housemanship. If u do ur housemanship in Ghana, u still av to take d exam by MDCN to practice in Nigeria if u do come back to d country.

I'm pretty much impressed with what I've read here so far. I'm aspiring for mbbs though. I wrote Jamb this year and my score is quite okay.

The two schools are okay since they both require entrance exam for DE students which make them a bit transparent, though I have preference for one.To be frank with you MBBS via DE is highly competitive due to the limited number they admit among hudreds that will apply but you can get it with determination.Information is what you need to outsmart your competitors. You can hit the figures on my signature if you wish.
