Dammit! Were Kenyans sleeping? They really got close.

Even handheld grenades can launch "illumination grenades".

That's what most African armies lack fire power and night fighting capability.

Nope Special Field Force(SFF)...not really special forces...they are more of paramilitary section within the police mainly made up of former swapo combatants that were not given jobs at independence and in the 90's they demonstrated and arm twisted the government into giving them jobs and many of them landed in the SFF....I think Gottfried misidentified the unit IMHO because that uniform belongs to the Special Reserve Force(SRF) and they are more of a SWAT unit than the SFF...Its the army commandos that are sent to SA for selection...haven't heard of the Police SFF or the SRF in SA....I stand to be corrected though...

The Special Reserve Force(SRF) is the police's SWAT team while the Special field Force(SFF) are mainly border guards and babysitting government offices grin grin...the SFF came first and MOST Civilians all think all cammo police uniforms are SFF and are ignorant of the SRF...Either way Any police cammo arriving at any mass disobedience in Namibia means trouble grin grin grin

aerostat surveillance balloons or masts mounted with EO/IR pods could offer persistence intelligence, surveillance reconnaissances to such camps and help zero in indirect artillery shells and mortars on any potential threats.there very many companies offering this systems e.g american,Israeli, french e.t.c

By the way are Marines also trained in crowd control or whats the story behind the gear they had on during the independence parade as seen in pic1. Ou and the new digital camo uniform for the Marines??...Is it replacing the green one or its the new Special forces uniform since even the Army Special Forces commander is wearing it in pic2:

I don't think there was anyone inside those IVF/APCs, they got really close, they had the element of surprise (atleast according to what they thought) yet they are the ones who suffered many casualties, like the reporter says, they fatally miscalculated . the way they got so close yet they lost many casualties suggest it was probably some set up. but if centry guys at the barracks had NVG they could have taken out all of them, those who were retreating could have been taken out by snipers, It would have been such a beautiful day!!
Anyway I think its high time the govt just bowed down and admitted the towns closer to the boder are as unsecure as anywhere in southern Somalia and deploy troops permanently along the border no matter how much it costs until the day KDF leave Somalia.

like everything else in Kenya, progress is on incremental basis, not at once for everyone, (e.g. the idea to create a SOF unit was formen in late 90's but it actually happened in 2010, its probably gonna take a couple of years till SF can have full operational readiness and capability to undertake any kind of task they are required) As for regular troops, they are probably gonna have to wait longer for an institution wide modernization program, which reminds me, the army was added $200M USD for "modernization", lets wait and see what upgrades they're going to go for.
KDF specOps slowly increasing capability

The riot gear remains a mystery...Although there is talk of marines being deployed on the 31st(If they are I'm guessing those gents will be part of the party).Yes they have adopted the new digital cammo(But the lime green one is still in use)The commander isn't wearing the same cammo scheme the marines have...I've seen the color patterns on other special forces commanders(But mostly in the tiger flash scheme)My guess is it's just for the higher ranks...

So is it safe to assume that the marines are phasing out the old lime green cammo with the digital 1 over time??I don't see them wearing two uniforms forever...Well Special Forces are shrouded in secrecy i rest all my questions about them for now....

Police hunt Al-Shabaab militants after attack in Bargoni, Lamu

Police are hunting for Al-Shabaab militia who killed five civilians at Omolo Bridge in Bargoni, Lamu County on Monday morning.

Lamu County Police Commander Chrispus Mutali said the joint operation by Kenya Police and Kenya Defence Forces is targeting Boni Forest where the militants are believed to be hiding.

“We have already launched an operation in the entire Bargoni, particularly to areas stretching towards the Boni Forest. After the Monday morning attack, the Al-Shabaab ran into the vast Boni Forest,” said Mr Mutali.

Mr Mutali appealed to the public to report any person seeking treatment for gunshot wounds as some militants were injured in the attack.

He said the Al-Shabaab terrorists hurled a petrol bomb at the vehicle after it hit the explosive device. An exchange of fire ensued. The vehicle had six officers and eight civilians.

Five people— two men, two women and a baby — died in the attack
