Good old Jamaica. Sandy beaches, crisp refreshing
water and Caribbean vibes make this island
paradise a go-to for those planning vacation
getaways and relaxing retreats. One thing as
beautiful as the island itself is the music that comes
from it. Soulful, melodic and laid-back, the Jamaican music scene is one of the world's most
intriguing. But there was a time when the island's
music lacked prominence on the global spectrum.
Here are 15 artists who put Jamaica on the map
through music

1. Bob Marley

You can't talk about Jamaica or reggae without
mentioning the late, great Bob Marley. Not only did
he give a face to Jamaican music all across the
world, but he produced two sons, Ziggy and
Damian, who continue this tradition through their
own musical careers. With songs like "Buffalo Soldier," "No Woman, No Cry" and "Jammin'," Bob
Marley brought reggae to the mainstream.

When people talk about Jamaica they often associate it with reggae, but almost always forget about ska. Jimmy Cliff is one of the greatest ska musicians to walk the earth, and is also one of the first to bring it to prominence.

6. Peter Tosh

Another member of The Wailers, Peter Tosh was
significant to the Jamaican music scene in the way
he presented himself and used his popularity for
change. With album names like No Nuclear War,
Legalize It and Equal Rights it's not too difficult to
see where Tosh was coming from. The man pioneered some of the greatest protest songs to
come out of Jamaica, and for that, will always be
remembered as a legend in the scene.
