A failed state is a country without rule of laws. Stop killing wild animals fo0ls. and the govt is very irresponsible to prevent it.

Imagine what this hypo would have contributed to the economy if they put in the zoo and open for tourist.....

It is a very pathetic situation honestly. They just kill these animals for meat and nothing more, then proudly display the pictures like the fools they are. angry I just get so pissed off looking at these pics.

If the white man calls us barbarians we go dey vex. Isn't this act of wanton killings barbaric??

Ps: the hippo is not among the endangered species though. Maybe you confuse them for rhinos.

They did not go and hunt the hippo for meat, it was said to be harassing farmers and therefore a danger to people. It had to be put down.

Most really wild locations in Nigeria are game reserves. Those are the only really wild areas. Yankari game reserve in Bauchi is very large which animals live aa wild. I was lucky to see a pride of a lion as wild animals not to talk of the so many wild hippos. A grown male lion can leave his pride and stray out of the reserve but should just be killed in certain conditions.
Is Yankari still in existence.

This story is so saddening and annoying.
I know how much I spent just to go to Kruger and experience wildlife.

Hippos are herbivores and highly territorial. Although they have killed more people than lions in Africa. Seeing humans on a lake could make them attack not because they intend to but because they're territorial. Killing this beast is uncalled for.

TOURISM potential being wiped away.

They will eat it once and that's all, not so

They could have preserved it and continue eating from visitors PAYING to

- visit there place,
- stay in their hotels,
- buy their food
etc, etc.

When shall we reason and see beyond our nose

That's d prob with this country's people, "FORESIGHT" fueled by ignorance.

That's the sad truth. Yes our lives are more precious.

Good question. Why exterminate the poor animal when it can be trapped alive? The rate at which animals are killed by humans ehh. Like our lives are more precious than theirs.

Re: Photos Of A Mighty Hippopotamus Caught In Gombe State Today by Nobody: 1:46pm On Aug 06, 2015
Yes o, oil has covered their eyes to develop other sectors, but until wildlife preservation schemes are established then these animals are at risk. If there was one there then they would have hunted it down and take it to such park.
prince3009:
It's a pity that things like this happen in a country like ours where there are no stiff laws on Animal Conservation. What stops the Gombe State Govt to initiate a wildlife preservation scheme to protect these animals in their habitat which will become a park where tourists can come from both within and outside the country to visit thereby boosting the tourism industry of the state.

Anyway, the issue of Federal Allocation via "Oil Proceeds" is the reason why all these Governors esp the Northern ones behave like spoilt kids who expect pocket money from Daddy every month and this has affected their ability to think far!

They should build a proper reserve, barricade it atleast. These animals are wild and sometimes when in contact with humans, its either your life or its.
adanny01:
This is just wrong.

Two wrongs dont make a right! I believe in punishment, somebody needs to got to jail for this crime as a deterant to other people.

Goverment reserve department is also to blame for not going after the Hippo themselves and transfering it to a safer place. There are many game reserves especially in the north which are usually not fenced. Any animal can move out from the reserve area but it dosent have to end this way.

This is so sad, and why is the clown smiling? Killing a defenseless animal for terrorizing farmers? Really, who lives in the forest, animal or humans? What's the difference between these ignoramus and the heartless bas.tard that killed Cecil. Go ahead eat it and in 4hrs you'll be hungry again and back to your miserable lives...
