PHYSIOLOGY IS THE BEDROCK OF MEDICINE. I believe physiology is the foundation of medicine. Knowledge of physiology is so important in the study of medicine. In physiology, you are taught abt d functions and normal composition of organs and broadly, the systems in d body. For example, how can a doctor knw if his patient is having an infection, if he cant intepret d lab techs result on the patient's white blood cell count. I have a genuine love for physiology bt d time for it is always affected by the sheer amount of time devoted to anatomy. Anatomy is very wide and a stuffy course. Lemme explain d stuffy part: Peole who like to prove their worth by saying by things they knw like anatomy esp gross anatomy. This is because its a course where there are big names to show off. This leads to pple giving little time to physiology. I was at a time guilty of such bt i corrected my self early. These were d topics to b knwn b4 d 1st incourse: Intro physiology nd cell, body fluids nd content, blood (blood composition, blood cells, plasma, etc.), kidney (nephrons, urine formation, renal failure, etc) and introduction to autonomic nervous system. I found blood tougher because twas bulky whyl i kinda disliked d body fluids cos i had to cram too many values. It was important to remember the values of each elements in d ICF and ECF (Intracellular fluid and Extracellular fluid). Kidney and ANS were relatively easier for me. Even tho i started so enthusiastic about gross anatomy, i had to brain check myself (do dat alot ) into focusing on physiology. Nd i fell in luv wit d course, much more than my girlfriend/fiancee/woman (delete as appropriate). 1 Like |

I have always been told med students are nerds and always have dere heads buried in books. Well true bt not entirely true. We read 60% of our tyms bt ever wonder wat we do wit d remaining apart from sleep (i love sleeping ;DI have always been told med students are nerds and always have dere heads buried in books. Well true bt not entirely true. We read 60% of our tyms bt ever wonder wat we do wit d remaining apart from sleep (i love sleeping dnt judge) For me, i love football. Well m an arsenal fan, so i can add i luv good football. Chelsea fans sorry, bt u guys suck in playin d damn tin, bt 4 parkin d bus, y'all good to go. Anyways in med school, relaxin wit wat u lyk is very essential. Its lyk chargin ur fones battery. Even tho i cant go to watch some matches. I update myself, youtubin them nd readin football articles. I remember some1 sayin: the best doctor is the one who can manage his time to bcome one and still not allow life pass him. Most med students see med skul as a prison camp wr dey are sentenced to for 6 years. Well i dont see it as such. Balancin ur tym is key, not gettin carried away is hell important. Enjoy urself by doin tins dat mks u appi, tins unrelated to medicine. Read a novel, call ur close friends, play games, learn an instrument. In all, it is best to remember med school is hard bt much easier wen u feel refreshed. P. S.: I play football too nd m gud at it. Represented my level at d Provost Cup, lost in d semis. Gist for later. Time to catch some sleep... Today's been exhausting. And for the physiology 2nd incourse, i got 75%!!!!!!! God is wonderful and i feel elated. Heads down tho, 3rd incourse is nxt month.... Nyt y'all... ARSENAL WON BAYERN.... TODAY IS A GOOD DAY 2 Likes |

Profcamsey:in physiology u learn a lot of clinical procedure. Some of them are: *Learnin how to determine and interpret PCV *Learnin how to carry out ECG and interpret it *Learnin how to determine respiratory diseases via spirometry. * how to determine a patient's blood group * how to get a patients systolic and diastolic blood pressure; and the heart rate There a lots of BASIC clinical procedures u will learn in physiology. And they are all important, cos u will always come across them when u get to the clinicals. |

I have been asked many times by countless medical enthusiasts: 'How many hours per day is a med student reqd to read in a day'. My reply always is towards the fact that i dont blive in rigidity. I am of the school of thought that being flexible ensures maneuverability. Altho i wnt discourage people havin a strict readin method, i am not of that mould. My 'style' is variability. Usually i read 4-5 hours on most days. Some days i get so lazy i dnt read at all. And there are days i read 10 hours or more on a stretch. There will b days my mates will b buried in books and listening to my iPod instead but Thats my STYLE, thats what defines ME. Med skul is not a place u adopt peoples styles. Create urs, build ur PERSONALITY, as much as it brings success, then stick to it. 9 Likes 2 Shares |
