Holders Nigeria cruised into the FIFA U-17 World Cup semi-finals after stunning Brazil with three goals in five first half minutes in a 3-0 victory. Victor Osimhen, with his eighth goal in five games, Kingsley Michael and Udochukwu Anumudu battered Brazil, and the Golden Eaglets played the rest of the game out at a canter to reach the final four.

Brazil had looked bright in the opening stages, either finding Akpan Udoh in fine form in the Nigerian net or hitting their opportunities off target, with Rogerio and Evander two of the culprits. A Seleção were made to rue those missed opportunities when the lethal Osimhen extended his lead at the top of the goalscoring charts. John Lazarus crossed from the Nigerian right and the Nigerian No9 headed in, via a deflection off Eder Militao.

Moments later, Nigeria doubled their lead, Osimhen instrumental once more. The forward hooked a bouncing ball back over his shoulder, with Michael following in. The ball bounced up off the turf and past Juliano. The Brazilian No1 was deceived by another bounce just four minutes later, as Anumudu hit a left-footed drive from distance. The effort skipped off the turf, and past the stopper, who was visibly unhappy at not keeping the shot out.

The second period saw few clear-cut opportunities, with Funsho Bamgboye and Evander going closest for either side but, in truth, it was a mere procession for the holders to take a step closer to retaining their title. They will head to Concepcion for Thursday's semi-final against the winner of tomorrow's quarter-final between Ecuador and Mexico.

Sinama Pongolle, nine goals in 2001 U17 World cup. Scored a brace in the finals against Nigeria. He did not become a World class Super Star.

Liverpool even snapped him up after the tourney along with Anthony Le Tallec. Both of them never became French senior team stars. There was one former Spanish U-17 dude at Arsenal too. Can't remember his name. Never cut it. Last I heard, he was playing in Brazil.

He moved to Liverpool not long after the U17. He came along with his U17 compatriot Le Tallec to Liverpool. Le Tallec also scored us in the final of that tournament but they did not reach the top heights of football.

So all the talk of Nigerian U17 players not making it to the top is flimsy because I think we have done well compared to other U17 winners.
I think the point here is that how many of these 'boys' will be playing football in a few yrs to come not even reach footballing heights. U can count how many nigerian players play till their mid thirties.its pathetic but it's the truth...we cheat and it's bad that's why by the time these teams meet again in let's say under 23 it will be a different story. In the next 5yrs these 'boys' bones must av ossified and it becomes more difficult to recover from injuries. It's wrong and we have to stop it. A case study...at nigeria 1999, Aghahowa was 18 and he had already been in the police force for some years and married with kids.....smh

Lol.

Big ups to the big uncles for winning against the school boys.

Too bad 90% of them won't make it to the next level like those before them cos they're at their peak now.

Anyway, anything is better than nothing. grin

First of all, Aghahowa did not play the U17 but U20. The strides taking to curb age cheating is at the U17 using a highly accurate MRI scan. These boys passed the test.

There is no need saying it is the truth when age cheating in the U17 is highly reduced.

On what basis are you making this conclusion?

Every player on that team has passed an MRI Test which puts them +/- 2 from 17... These are young men.

The question many would ask about the Nigerian players in 5-10 years time: Where are these players?

While many of these Brazilian players would be seen playing for big clubs around the world...

Welldone

Dave, are u watching this?
sure i did saw all the goals to the last minute. Bamgboye cant play next match. Needed more in final or we risk a red card.

These guys have a good tackling tactics. The brazilians came to rush the game, as can be seen from the 1st 10mins, but we reminded them we are Africans.

A chip in: pls if fifa says something as a matter of fact and one man living in fmifu comes to counter based on what he sees, whose fact would you believe (based on some men arguing that these guys arent true u17. They even went further to say no machine can detect age) smh@ ignorance grin
