An actualized version of the Periodic Table: I know most of us have crammed the Periodic Table  but this was a large scale model with samples of each element in physical form. Where the element was a gas or poisonous, it was represented by emptiness.4 Likes 5 Shares

The ceilings were covered in murals showing the theories and stories of Astronomy, from Greek gods to Arab scholars mapping out the stars to sailors and circumnavigation and more 1 Like 1 Share

Tesla Coil and Faraday cage: Nikola Tesla is one of the fathers of Electricity. The machine is an example of what an Alternating Current look like. It actually works and shows those sparks of blue electricity (which was cool). SunDial: Way before clocks were invented, this was the best way to tell the time. It works by using the position of the sun in the sky. By looking at the shadows cast by the sun, you can estimate what time of the day it is and using a calibrated surface (after daily checking of fixed positions) makes it more accurate. Foucault Pendulum: This is a device that shows that the earth is rotating, even though we can't feel it. How it. works is that the pendulum moves around a calibrated sphere and hits some objects down at certain points (that's what you will see). Moon Phase: If you look up, there's a small scale of the orbit the moon takes around the earth and this exhibit is used to demonstrate how we see the moon every night through its phases (full moon, crescent moon etc). 3 Shares

Zeiss Refracting telescope: It's one of the few remaining in the world. You can look at the surface of the planet Venus through it. 1 Like 5 Shares

Wow! This is good. Impressive! The sundial still serves good purpose around the world. And anything can serve as a dial, even your shadow on a clear, sunny day. The spectroheliscope is awesome. I wonder how anyone dreamt that up. Nigerian students really need to see stuffs like this. Education doesn't end in books. 2 Likes 2 Shares |

Feraz: Oh jesus why am i not here now  Someone please throw me down there and forget me  ...Being planning to make a makeshift telescope that will have a high magnifying power at least something manageable.... To observe the night sky better from home. But i can't get two well to do powerful magnifying glasses or maybe three or four cus i want to try something new to see if i can make the magnifying power more powerful.. But can't get them... these punny ass magnifying glasses i saw on jumia is just child's play.. wish i could get my hands on very good magnifying glasses, can work my way around other materials.. |

Feraz: No not at all for deep space, Deep space telescopes makes use of Mirrors because glass is too poor to capture good images of such magnitude. Am talking of just a home made Galilean telescope. . .Just to observe earth's night sky... I will check the website.. lets hope its something i can afford.. |

I've met a few people interested in Astronomy here. in Nigeria. Why not you guys start crowd funding for money to build yours? Start small, build a sundial and look for apparatus. Get a small building and write to universities and observatories to see if they have old equipment they can give you. Charge as little as possible so people can visit and I'll tell you other ways to get funds. You can start the first observatory in Nigeria 2 Likes |

MathsChic: I hated textbooks as a child. The ones here were boring. To understand Geology more, I went to the Grand Canyon. I even visited Hoover Dam in order to learn. It makes so much more sense to visit and see things. Some lecturers here in Nigeria try but we can do more. |
