I advise u to invest ur money somewhere else.
Trucking biziness is a very lucrative biziness and it yields very quick returns but U have to be very deep into it for u to see any of those returns. First of all the drivers would rob the bejesus out of U. And God save U if any of the spare parts gets worn out and needs to be replaced. The drivers quickly connive with the mechanics and use inferior parts but charge u at the price of the genuine ones. And there is a huge difference my brother, for instance a center bearing from Brazil would cost about fifteen thousand naira while an inferior one from China would just go for say 3000 naira. So apart from them ripping u off, they are also wearing down ur trucks due to frequent maintenace. Ol boy, I could go on and on grin

However, if U insist u still wanna have something to do with trucks cos U have a source for it, I advice U to consider bringing in those trucks and selling them to local truck companies who have the time , energy and experience to manage trucking biziness. I know a couple of truckers that would be intersted in buying second-hand trucks for thier company.

Hello Guys:

I will like to explore the possibility of putting a cooperative of Tanker Truck owners together to move petroleum products for a major Nigerian Oil firm. This opportunity has been made available to me. If interested please contact me at the following email address: nospamlarez (at) architecturaldefinitions.com (remove 'nospam'). You could also call me at +234.1.870.7607. Cheers.

Lagos, with a population estimated at over 11 million people is the fastest growing megacity in the world. These people need a more efficient transport system. It is unfortunate that Lagos blessed with significant Inland waterways that can be explored as an alternative to traffic jam-packed roads, has not aggressively pursued this path. I grew up as a child, exploring these waterways with my father in our boats. Ebute, Ikorodu to 5 Cowrie Creek (Lekki Pahse 1), was less than 8 minutes. Ebute, Ikorodu to Marina was less than 12 minutes. I believe the future of transportation in Lagos lies in the waterways.

Lagos State Government is now attempting (somewhat mis-guided) to encourage Inland waterways navigation, and has instituted a program to build and rehabilitate some jetties for water transportation. I believe this is acceptable for a start. However, there is a lot more needed for a viable water transport system. Developing this transport system will create a paradigm shift, and probably increase the life expectancy of it's users. Traveling on Lagos roads is extremely stressful to say the least.

I am very interested in Inland waterways, and have done an extensive study of this area including, navigation, jetties and docks, passenger vessels, as well as strategies. People interested in this area and willing to work together should contact me to explore and develop possibilities. Wait until you see what I have in Satellite imagery.  wink

You people are not listening, that is what a strategic business plan will cover and forego to cover. To deploy a business model you have to assess the risk and formulate if it is feasible? If it is feasible, does the risk over weigh the benefits?

Next, you ask yourself can strategic business plan develop earlier risk detection and apply a prevention strategy? In my earlier write ups, I mentioned a strategy called Critical Risk Analysis and Solution Strategy and Ownership and Legal Structure. An employee is more likely to work hard if his/her interest is protected whether financially or collective ownership.

My business plan will correlatively cover all aspect of employee rights and benefits including holidays, sick pay and pension and bonuses.

It will cover employee training and promotion and say in the company. These business models are what Africa businesses lack and that is why we hear all sorts of business issues.

Contact valentine.obih@ittcg.co.uk for further consultation.

My sister, forget about employee benefit, naijas are special people, greedy to the core. With all these provisions these guys will still play fast one on you.If Naijas working in oil companies with wonderful packages are doing it, then what package can you give drivers to prevent them from doing it.

DID YOU END UP STARTING THE TRUCK BUISINESS>
HOW IS IT GOING ??
Re: Starting A Trucking Business In Nigeria? by gaby(m): 12:17am On Sep 30, 2009
@Ebonyman

My guy i've almost forgotten i started a thread like this.I actually started the business with seven tippers my brother you wont believe what i've been through and still going through.I've had to sell off what's left of the trucks because drivers, manager and the mechanics were just feeding fat on my investment while i toil my ass off.

Word of advice to anyone planning on taking this same route please be sure to do an indepth survey on what you actually want to haul and dont just dabble into it because you have the finance to acquire the trucks and hand them over to people after they've quoted what the daily returns would be, they'd hardly tell you about the down side it's always the huge returns they'd keep hammering on until they lure you into handing the truck over to them only then you'd begin hearing stories on how the truck didn't work today or lastma and police did this and that.

Enough said my people i should have listened to some advices here but i feel it was bound to happen the way it did so no regrets even though times are different from what it used to be now.I lost everything and everything thats the simple truth, hard to believe though but that's gonna be a part of life's history.

thread with care future investors please so as no to fall into the same snare i fell into.

Re: Starting A Trucking Business In Nigeria? by vtuzzi(m): 6:28pm On Dec 04, 2009
hi Gaby,
im truly sorry all went down the way it did. i mst say though that Nigeria is a delicate country. the best business plans fail in our tough business terrain. however the success rate of businesses is also quite interesting. the haulage business like all others has its fair share of problems, but also like every business needs hands on attention to make it work.
ive been into oil and gas marketing and distributio for about 7 years. inevitably i had to acquire delivery vehicles. about 4-5mnths ago amid the financial crises we thought it necessary to diversify bit not entirely out of the industry and make the truck management a business on its own. i must tell you it hast been too rosy but we are about to take it up another notch.
i think really , that we sometimes have unrealistic expectations and over look the place of process. we also fail to realise nothing should be etched in stone. let us be flexible. one of the earlier comments about a detailed biz plan is brilliant, unfortunately the guys email is no longer active.

lastly, new opportunities are opening up. the lekki free trade zone is embarking on seriously massive projects and there is always a need for construction equipment tippers and even diesel tankers.

all the luck in your future endeavours.

P.s u didnt fail all together, this thread has been an immense blessing to me! smiley
