If you have taught before, you will understand that some children can really push you to the wall. Especially this assignment issue. My own xprience was a kind of brutal. but as per say my family no be ajebo.. nothing happen.. I feel for the small boy sha.. All this Ajebo children sef..
Imagine a secondary school boy in Abuja here slapped a teacher and the school managment asked the teacher to resign bcs the parents wanted to withdraw all his children.. God help us..

I could tell very well when men were boys, this sort of flogging was so popular given the prevalent moral values in the society at the time. After been beaten, you would only be able to sit down on one side of the buttocks. You get home, you dare not tell that you were flogged. How times has change.

It's becoming an everyday occurrence in schools, I think something should be done quickly . I heard of a case like this recently , the child was beaten and the little girl is still on sick bed for over 3weeks now.

That is how we grew up and learned in Nigeria then and we are better for it.

In fact, it came to a point that, we mastered various methods of enduring those canes without showing any sign and emotions and after the ordeal, look at how your fellow guys and girls will be congratulating you to the disdain of the teacher, sometimes the teacher will even be feeling shameful if we did not show any emotions despite their best efforts.

I got lots of bragging rights then, today's kids are aja butter, imagine how no one is talking about the kid's failure to do his assigment, even the bible said; spare the rod and spoil the child.

hmmm, listen I understand all you said and someone I am surprisely buying into it...but the truth is; with a projection back to when I was growing up, it truly sound foreign to me to hear things like 'cane ... will make someone to be afraid of learning'...o boy, the fear of cane was the beginning of wisdom then, we learnt by force and by fire...

I don't know, maybe things have changed and cane have turned to negative. I think the jury is still out and time will tell if the way we are bringing up our kids today will really give them all the necessary qualities to be rugged and tough enough to face the type of challenges we went through.

Brother God bless you for this comment. The fear of cane makes some students skip their lessons, Some of these teachers actually come to class with bunch of cane like masquerade.
