Leon then observed from a safe distance as the lioness wandered ahead of her partner and began gulping down water.
It was at this moment that a second lioness proceeded to walk over to the male waiting for his woman to return.
Unhappy by the advances of this rival female, the lioness ran towards the two predators in a threatening manner.

The lion, who expected a fight between the two females, quickly ran into the path of the lioness to intercept her progress.

However, as it transpired, the lioness was not heading towards the female and instead mounted an attack on her other half.

Leon took a number of photographs as the enraged lioness began swatting at the lion with her large paw.

The pictures show that her mouth is wide open as she tackles her partner and eventually causes him to fall over onto his side.

The lion appears to know exactly who wears the trousers in the relationship and submits to the aggression of the female.

Meanwhile the other lioness is left with a damning message regarding the availability of this particular male.

A lion is strong enough to kill 5 lionesses in a face-off. This one allowed himself to be beaten by the jealous lover so that peace could reign. But these animals keep proving that they're way more intelligent than you girls.

I've spent most of my life studying Panthera leo. I've gat loads of materials on lions. They turn out to be my favorite beast.

What transpired wasn't jealousy. It has nothing to do with emotion. Lions are social animals. Faithfulness is rarely seen in both male and female lions. What happened was just a spar to remind him of their coalition agreement. You see, the lioness needs him more than he needs her. She doesn't want him attracted to the other lioness, lest he gets distracted, with divided attention. In as much as the lioness do the hunting, the male owns the kill. Without him around, she can never keep the kill as there are lots of hyenas lurking round, waiting to mob a sole lioness, or even a small group of lioness, with the intent to steal their kill. With the male around, the kill is secured, because hyenas dread adult male lions a lot.

Don't u just love similes like.... As brave as a lion?! I saw a scene where a large group of hyenas mobbed 5 lionesses. All of a sudden, the male lion showed up from nowhere, chased down the matriarch(the leader of the hyenas which is the oldest and biggest hyena in the clan. It's a female by the way). The lion caught up with her and killed her. The other hyenas ran for dare lives.

I'm so crazy about lions. I love the creatures.

No matter how strong the male lion is, he can't kill 3 lionesses in a stand-off, let alone 5. The best he can do is beat them, but not kill.

Lionesses will back down when their pride male takes them on. But when the stand off is from a male intruder, in the absence of the pride male, 5 lionesses will tackle the male and hold him back, especially if they are nursing mothers. He can't beat them, because they have much at stake.
