Interesting piece. With the epileptic power supply in Nigeria, you wonder why our roofs aren't filled with solar panels.

Of all the brilliant issues raised by the OP, na this one be your comment? If you don't try, how will you prove you're not destined for any business success? If you're scared of failure, success will be scared of you as well.

You dont need all the power in the world to run an IT business. I feel you re just looking for an excuse and its people like you that blame government even for your undoing.

Guess what? It sells for just about $129, and it’s selling like hot cakes."

Is this our very own Obi (Igbo) or some Asian man ?. Just curious.

The agriculture one is so on point.

It still baffles that there is starvation in a country like Nigeria. So much fertile land, hunger in the midst of plenty. lipsrsealed

Precisely!

I also think the write-up would do well to mention tourism. There is a large amount of virgin coastal property that will greatly boost the tourism industry with the right marketing and development.

Every last tribe in Nigeria has something they are all great at. Healthy competition should see all Nigerians competing to be their best whilst growing the country's profile.

Tourism would also bring in the foreign exchange that doesn't rely on volatile natural resources.

They wouldn't pontificate an article on African businesses by using a non-African example, would they?

I think you re wrong bro. NYSC monthly pay is 19000, what stops you from puting aside 9000 monthly for the 12months duration and use it to start a little business when you re through with your service?

Seriously these re wat i feel africa money bags & investors should put their money on. The brains re here, bt wht has been holding us backward is finance nd financing our young businesses.

It isnt easy though largely due to lack of finance nd institutions dt would give loans wit little or no interest to young nd upcoming africa entrepreneurs, but i feel wit doggedness, hardwork and determination, we will surely get there soonest.

And for we to make Nigeria in particular nd Africa in general great, we must first jeopardise the mindset in us of going abroad for no just reason nd also kill the perception in us of wanting to work for govt just because of future pension.

All talk with no even a little action on ground is nd would become irrelevant. so i urge all fellows with the mind of an entrepreneur to put something on ground before we start looking for a higher capital.

I'm Godwin Uwangue, MD/CEO EMPEROR TECHNOLOGIES LTD.

Who re u nd wat little business hv u put on ground?[/b]

I personally am in the process of starting up my own technological services company. I also have some land that I bought that has appreciated in value. I want to develop that land into a residential complex, sell it and use the proceeds into a developing a larger complex.

My own interests are in property development and technological services. My close relation is into manufacturing of FMCG goods and is looking to diversify their products; I am assisting with the market research and hopefully will be rewarded with a stake in the expanded business.

Mr man, we re not talking about a yoruba, hausa, igbo or ESAN man/woman here. What we re talking about is Nigerians in particular and Africans in general. so stop given yourself false hope because the obi smartphone your mentioned isnt owned by an igbo man/woman. Google it yourself.

I don't know about that. But the 'Obi' could be Japanese. Some Japanese names and words sound uncannily Igboish. I'm guessing it's our own 'Obi'

It's not that deep. It was a valid question in this context. I appreciate you're looking at the bigger picture which is in line with the article, but seeing "Obi", a significantly Igbo word, the question also fits too. I do understand the knee-jerk reaction but take am easy on our brother.

As humans, we most times lost battles not because we aint strong or powerful enough to win it, but simply because we have already put a sword with our hands to our minds and mindset.

Nigeria is without doub safer than lot of western countries. Though where you plan residing in Nigeria also matters alot. Where do you have in mind? Lagos or Abuja or Borno?

I love your mindset! Everywhere is unsafe.

But what's the funniest thing is that oyibos - the most adventurous people and also most likely to spend their disposable income on travelling the road less travelled - they are more easy going and fly in the face of danger. They would love a tailor-made "conservation holiday" in the plains of Jos or a lazy beach/lagoon exploration along the southern beaches of Nigeria.

Also, Africans make the best tourists within Africa. We all know the terrain well and would respect each others cultures enough to not act a fool and get caught in a dangerous situation...

I disagree on that Oo big time, name one safe city in Nigeria where you can wake up at 2AM and decide to drive to a next safe city
In all of the western countries, you can do this without blinking an eye lid.
