NIGERIANS ARE DAFT. THIS POST EXEMPLIFIES IT AS FOLLOWS.

1. RIGHT THINKING, INTELLIGENT UNIVERSITY GRADUATES WOULD NEVER POST THEIR ACADEMIC DEGREES ONLINE - NOT ON NL.
2. BERKLEE COLLEGE OF MUSIC DOES NOT OFFER ONLINE POSTGRADUATE QUALIFICATIONS - DEFINITELY NOT IN SONGWRITING.
(EVIDENCE: https://online.berklee.edu/songwriting)
3. MASTER CLASSES/LESSONS OFFERED IN ARTS SUBJECT, MUSIC, PAINTING, DRAMA, ETC., ARE NOT MASTERS DEGREES.
4. MASTERS QUALIFICATIONS ARE AWARDED AS MASTER OF ARTS, MASTER OF SCIENCE, ETC, ETC. THE QUALIFICATION OBTAINED BY THIS GUY REQUIRES NO ENTRY REQUIREMENTS. REALLY? YES. HOW DO I KNOW? THIS IS THE PROGRAMME WEBSITE (https://online.berklee.edu/certificates/songwriting-master) ON THAT SITE, THIS IS WHAT THE COLLEGE SAYS TO AN ENQUIRER ON Nov 6, 2015 3:25pm
"Hi Laura, thanks for your question! Our certificate programs and individual courses are open enrollment, so there is no admissions process." CHECK FOR YOURSELF. TO ENROL ON A MASTERS DEGREE YOU NEED A GOOD BACHELORS DEGREE.
5. ACROSS THE USA, YOU NEED 30-64 CREDIT HOURS TO EARN MA/MSc/MBA, MTh, MEd, ETC. THIS MASTER CERTIFICATE IS AWARDED FOR LESS THAN THE NATIONALLY AFFIRMED REQUIRED UNITS.
6. THIS GUY IS TRULY A DELUDED IMPOSTER.
7. HIS DELUSION HAS COST HIM $13,041.00 - THE COST OF THE PROGRAMME (https://online.berklee.edu/certificates/songwriting-master)
8. IF AFTER READING THIS YOU STILL FALL FOR IS SCAM, YOU ARE A FOOL.

Trying to say his degree is irrelevant in Nigeria is wrong. I for one enjoy his songs and want to see him improve. If his degree will aid his musical growth, why not? Then he still has his fan base which will keep him active. And not forgetting that there is still an international market outside Nigeria. Asa is doing a great job and he can even do better.

Ride on Timi.
Then you speaking for YOU, not Nigerians. Timi is your preference but I am emphasizing on the perception of the general Nigerian youth who has enriched artists such as wizkid, davido, iyanya, terryg and likes.

When they say women have fish brain and barely thinks I thought it was mere stereotype on the female folks but you actually...... ..... ......

I DON'T KNOW THIS GUY. I'VE NEVER HEARD OF HIM. IF YOU HAVE EVER SEEN A MASTERS DEGREE PARCHMENT, WHAT HE POSTED ONLINE IS NOT A MASTERS DEGREE PARCHMENT. IT'S NOT EVEN UP TO A DIPLOMA QUALIFICATION. READ MY POST ABOVE.

So how should that stop him from trying to better himself at his chosen art? Whether he has popular support or not? Whatever you find to do, Excel in it no matter how little.

I am not even going to reply your insinuation at insulting me. Unfortunately, two wrongs can never make a right so I'd just let it slide.

Berklee Online Extension Degree? With all due respect, this is a bullsh*t degree. Timi has an amazing voice, and did not need to do this to shore up his self-worth. We only need him to make a great album. And I believe he can.

Worst still, he forked out $13,041.00 to obtain a piece of paper not worth the stuff written on it. (https://online.berklee.edu/certificates/songwriting-master)

Of what use is this degree when Nigerians don't appreciate written songs but random nonsense freestyle on a fast beat, Nigerians don't care about lyrics they just want to dance to anything with fast beat.

Ever since you have been listening to Iyanya, can you conclude he makes sense in his songs with lyrics like "From the couch to bed from the bed to the bedroom".
I see timi going beyond the shores of this country. That's why he needs to get better. You never know when he will be discovered for international success.

Actually I'm not speaking in the context of money or fame, I'm tryna state the irrelevance of his degree in the Nigerian ignorance infested society. I for one detest Nigeria songs, I have about 500 songs on my laptop and I can tell you this, you won't find ONE Nigeria song out of my over 500 songs.

We still have so many good Nigerian songs. Even in America, there are still so many crappy wack singers, so many. it is only the good songs from outside Nigeria that you got to hear of. most of those good songs come from an album full of junk. same for Nigerian artistes too. I have a very good ear for music, I have up to 7,000 songs on my laptop and I have listened to songs from people like Don Williams (10 albums), Barry white, Edith Paif, Cher, Barbara Streisand, Ozzy Osborne, Celine D, Sunny Ade, Osadebe, Ebenezer Obey, Sir Warrior, Fela, Femi, Seun, Gorillaz, Daft Punk, Chris Brown, Dj Tiesto, Greg Issacs, Bob Nesta Marley, Enya (every album) , Dave Koz, AbbA, Mary McKee, Dolly P, GreenDay, TuPac, Mode9, Asa, Onyeka, Goldie, FlavaFlav, Big Daddy Kane, U2, Aerosmith, Rakim, KRS1, Angelique Kidjo, Sarah Brightman, Katherine Jenkins, Andrea Bocelli

and Hundreds of others I need not mention but if u have seen the list of people I mentioned then you will know that my ears have really travelled when it comes to music. even these people I mentioned have some very crappy songs, only the SWEET ones got popular.

We have real talented singers in our Blessed Nigeria, even with all the yeye songs that are coming out, our talent base is very good.

It's music! I don't think there is much requirements to be asked about to study music. The school is prestigious with incredible talents as alumni and Timi joins that rank. Besides education is changing around the world.

Really? No prerequisite to study music? Thanks for displaying your ignorance. Your statement smacks of argumentatum ignoramus. Music is one subject that you can't skip or jump hoops or loops. Did you ever go university - one with a music department? People take courses from other departments e.g. Biology students taking courses in biochemistry or mass comm students taking courses in english or drama. You won't find anyone (and I mean anyone) taking courses from music because it is a technical subject. Yes you don't need to study music to be pop musician, you need excellent knowledge and understanding of music theory and practical to be a classical music artiste. You can never be admitted to music programmes in a reputable college or university without meeting the entry requirements.

The aesthetic standards with which you judge Nigerian and even West African music are misplaced. West African music is based on crazy variations of beats, that's why musicians such as Terry G and co sing for effect rather than meaning. The voice is merely harmonize with the vibrant beat therefore you have a richer sound albeit intellectual depraved lyrics.

Drums for this reason are so prominent in our music.

You speak for yourself and not for the entire 150,000,000 Nigerians. You may think Nigerians don't like good lyrics, but u r wrong. That's why he (Timi Dakolo) will continually shine even in the midst of the so-called bad lyricists. That's why Asa will continually shine in their midst too.

Not all Nigerians go down to those fast beats and bad lyrics that the majority of our musicians sing, many Nigerians know the value of good music and good lyrics and you can see, with time, these so-called bad lyricists will turn down their bad lyrics into creative writing when they start getting old. Let's say they just venture into this kind of music to make quick wealth cos that's what youths want to hear.

Why is Ebenizer Obe still known and appreciated even in old age?

Why is Late Rex Lawson songs still shine in Nigeria?

Why is Victor Olaiya's songs still waxing strong even after decades?

Why is Bright Chimezie's songs still fresh and sweet when sung?

Though the majority of youths still dance to the music of this bad lyricists, but if you wanna do music, do a good music with good lyrics; not for you to get quick wealth, but for posterity sake, money will come but gradually.

Okay. Two quick things. I live in America & I'm in academia. Online degrees are about as useful as horse piss. Nothing beats the actual experience of a face to face encounter with a professor in a classroom, and the useful interaction with your classmates. Take into account pop quizzes. Actual class participation for credit. Opportunities for extra credit. Consultation with a professor during office hours. I could go on. An online degree is basically a fraud.

As for calling me a ****(whatever you wrote up there), I have proven that you're ignorant, one of those vacuum-heads who fall on their dusty corner-cafe computers, put down their meth pipes, and go on a rant.

Hence I was not wrong to say you judged his programme with the title only.

The advantages you mention in favor of classroom education have regularly been criticised. Classes largely depend on the professor or lecturer. Some are brilliant and communicate perfectly while most teach as dry as dust and in the most sickening fashion. Nonetheless most classes now prefer a Socratic method where the student does all the work. Similarly good online degree courses tend towards the Socratic method, besides e-mails bridge the distance between the instructor and the student.

Try to acknowledge the advantages of an online degree.

Would you mind mentioning just a few of the requirements needed for a proper understanding of music theory?

If you were to take a music theory course, let's say MUS201, where MUS101 is a prerequisite, you would be expected to have full grasps (knowledge and understanding) of topics like: harmonic vocabulary & modulation; diatonic triads and seventh chords in major and harmonic minor; 2-part, 3-part and 4-part harmony (figured bass); harmonic progression; chord progression; fugal writing; rhythmic anticipation and articulations; melodic and harmonic tensions and resolutions, etc., etc. There is no way you can study on a music course or programme which builds on a student's knowledge and understanding of these theoretical stuff without good prior knowledge of what they are. Pop musicians with no music qualifications (just like children who speak mother tongues without theoretical knowledge of the rules of the grammar) do compose and perform music featuring these theoretical principles. Albeit, like the childhood and language analogy used, pop musicians with no academic music training have no understanding of theoretical principles underpinning their compositions and performance.
