…Integrates it to Train 7 project

NLNG plant, Bonny Island

Kunle, Kalejaye 12 April 2016, Sweetcrude, Lagos – The Nigeria LNG Limited, NLNG, has announced plans to introduce an additional train to its six existing trains at its operational base on Bonny Island, Rivers State.

The new train, added to the existing six and a seventh train that had been on the drawing board for over 10 years, brings the total number of trains at the NLNG plant to 8.

Announcing this in Lagos, the company said the new Train 8 would be integrated to the Train 7 project and would be developed together with it.

Managing Director of the NLNG, Mr. Bab Omotowa, who disclosed this when he officially presented the 2016 Facts and Figures of the company to newsmen, said: “Are we doing Train 7 & 8 together? The answer is true. Previously we were looking at Train 7 as a mega project, which is similar to what the Qataris has built which is a 8.7 million tons per annum Train.

“The current set of Trains which we have is between 3.8 to 4.3. But this new one would have been 8.7 but after much review, we said that it is much better to replicate what we have rather than complicate our problem.

“So, we are building a replica of Train 6. So when we do that (4.3, 4.3 capacity each) we have 8.6 which is the same 8.7. It will be easier to maintain and it is the same technology. So, we are working the two Trains (7 & cool together,” Mr. Omotowa said.

Commenting on when the Final Investment Decision, FID, on Trains 7 & 8, would be concluded, Mr. Omotowa said it will be done during the administration of President Muhammadu Buhari.

The NLNG boss noted that embarking on Train 7 & 8 projects now would be much cheaper because of low oil price, adding that $300 million has already been spent n site preparation for the project.

This is the million-dollar question.

All they've is taken a big unwieldy project and broken in two separate and manageable chunks and this is good because it allows for redundancy. A friend and I already suspected Train 8 would probably come fast on the heels of Train 7. What we didn't anticipate was them scaling down Train 7.
So obviously they will probably need more man-power to run both trains in the future. The question now is how we present crop of GTs fit into their future plans considering the FIDs for both trains are yet to be concluded and building both trains may take another 5-6 years. (Though I read a conflicting report elsewhere that the FID for Train 7 is already a done deal)
They MAY decide to take a higher number of GTs and groom us for that singular purpose and that's a very big "may" so don't get ur hopes up.

This is the fun part. GT hopefuls speculating on the implications of any new developments concerning the company or the commodities (oil & gas) while knowing that in reality it might not be as black and white as that or that the thought process of the board and management might be different from ours. In any case, I'll join in. I completely agree with @NPComplete. Obviously two smaller trains will require more manpower than one large one mainly due to duplication of activities, but the main advantages lie in redundancy, ease of maintenance, familiarity amongst others. And these are projects for the future and we are manpower for the future so logically, this new plan should warrant an upward review of the number of proposed GT intakes. Seconded.

Talked with a friend of mine about a week plus now...a fellow hopeful who has said he knows an insider. He said something as to the board trying to look at an upward review as above the initial speculation of 120..... Though I found the news conflicting with what has been the trend in this forum but with this new development of train 7&8 the news may just have gotten some credibility.
Yet we all wait and see who correct pass amongst all of em!!!

Peace!!! grin

From a valid and authoritative source.

We shall all be contacted before July of 2016.

When we are, we shall all know our fate.

A lot of us shall be called but there is one more test to go.

I pray for all of us in Jesus Name.

Amen.

Okay, so with this news of a possible upward review of intakes possibly due to train 8 (I know, info from a single source hardly constitutes legit inside info but then logic and common sense supports that argument as has been postulated above) what's to say that this long wait might turn out to be not such a bad thing after all?

Do you know for how long he's wanted to post that since the idea for the meetups came about (which is the main reason why he bothered to register at all) but he's since been held back by that annoying "Sorry, you can't post in this section yet..."
