was also in the state last year for a one week training, stayed in the hotel till the training was over, when i could not afford to keep on paying for the hotel bills after my training , i had to change my flight schedule and returned HOME. tell him to do same unless he is planing to over stay and disappear into the thin air

An average 9ja man is not a fraudster. They are struggling too and they are def not interested in showing somone with no plan the ropes of how to survive as an illegal anymore. These people who keep striving for visa, buying ticket and just packing bag to go look for help without planning are bold and dumb at the same time. Even i had an old school mate who i hadn't spoken to in over 10yrs who called me suddenly telling me he is coming for conference and wants me to put him up. i was like bro we went to school together over 10yrs ago and im not sure i know you enough for you to just call me out the blue and expect me to just open my home or contacts onto you. if you had been calling me to get acquainted again, then i might be willing but you just called to ask for a place to stay? nah ma niqqa.

The guy is still in Albany, New York. Conference finishes soon. He actually wanted to stay behind to make room for him applying for a residency visa or find a person to settle down with.

People talking about hotels and going back to Nigeria dont understand the story or struggle behind his journey. He went to the conference with only $120 in his pocket. He struggled to come up with ticket money. Friends and foes have to gather and contribute the ticket money.

Going back to Nigeria so soon will be seen as failure for him. He wont have another chance again. He still has valid visa till 2017. Help comes in different form.

My cousin travelled to the US a week ago for a Art conference ( he is on a business visa). The Art Residency as its called is still ongoing and will finish soon.

He made an arrangement with his friend in Ohio that after the conference he would be coming over to stay with him. When he got to the US, he called his friend and the friend started ignoring his calls. He finally got through but the friend told him that he has changed his mind that he should look for somewhere else to stay.

Cousin is disappointed, and doesn't have anybody or place to stay after the conference. The conference is in New york. The Art organizers provided him with accommodation until the end date of the conference.

Honestly the guy didnt plan it well, he knew what he was gonna do and he left naija wit 120$.
It wil be more than difficult to find a Samaritan who is ready to risk that here on nairaland...ur brother is in best position to look out for help and talk to people over there...many really wish they can help but no one is ready to take the risk for a stranger...this wouldn't have been a problem if u had posted this here before left.

On a serious note, his best bet is to try as much as possible to make contact with a relative, or even a friend to a friend of a relative because it would be difficult for a total stranger to take him in. It's not impossible though, my Uncle once took in and housed some random Yoruba dude for 3 years.

Why must he go to Ohio anyway? Since his friend over there is no longer willing to accommodate him, he might as well look for opportunities elsewhere. If he's Igbo, I'll suggest he start making inquiries to if and where his clan has their meetings while he's still in New York. He would certainly find some assistance there. If he's not Igbo, it's likely the Yoruba and others have such meetings too. Someone else already suggested he should try and find a Nigerian church close to him.
