He played with injury for two months before the 2008 final, and had to undergo surgery at the end of the season after Euros.

2014, he could terribly unfit at the world cup with a knee injury which hadn't healed properly.

You don't possibly recover from an hamstring in a week as Ronaldo appeared to have done since getting injured a few weeks ago.

He was phenomenal that year, more than Arjen Robben and Ribery who were his close competitors. Ronaldo's outing this season isn't much of a difference with 2013 that bagged him the award.

The main reason Messi won last year's was champions league victory, not that he faired better than the Madrid King. Champions league is vital when there are players whose performance are wondrous.
