You can write a test for "R" and "L" factors too while you are at it. smiley Also test for the "A" factor; you know some people tend to pronounce words like "name" like "nem".

It is a very bad and local accent and must be stopped.

H-Factor is when someone has trouble pronouncing words that have the letter H in them or pronouncing words that do not have the letter H in them as having the H sound. You can test yourself and check your H-factor-compliance by reciting aloud, the sentence below in 5 seconds. If you have difficulty reading it out aloud correctly, you have the dreaded H-factor. But not to worry, at least you now know and you can retrain yourself to lose the H factor. Cheers.

It is advisable to have someone with you to monitor your compliance. Have Fun! courtesy laffhub.com.

It's more common among the Yorubas; just as the Igbos find themselves in between Scylla and Charybdis when they have to pronounce words that begin with the letter 'R' or 'L'.

Ex: I love Manchester United because of Wayne ''Looney". grin

Only a very small group of Igbos from one state.

I hate when people make the H-factor mistake while writing.

I see it all the time here on nairaland.

When I was a kid, my mum used to gather us(me and my siblings) and make us mimicking the sound of an old telephone.

She taught us the difference between L and R only because there was no need for the H-factor and the rest.

Thankfully,we don't have any issue with pronouncing any alphabet

the gap does add to one's beauty, back in the days, there are people that are specialized in making fake ones for people that wish to have gap tooth

actually, you're right. Lots of Yorubas definitely have the H-factor issue.

it stems from our mother tongue.

nothing to be ashamed of though.

I think i should b more concerned abt d W factor... My friends mock me for perpetually pronuncing R as W. e.g
I have a 'wed' pen.
U cooked 'wice', am i 'wight'?
When ar we starting d 'expewiment?'
Lols... All i can but do is join them in laffing at myself! Altho, i'm ernestly working to correct it, i see improvements...

Have you ever heard of the word 'sarcasm'?.
If you have, are you certain that you know what it means?.
