Ibo, yoruba, edo and all south south except maybe akwa cross share the same set of genes, have the same history, all appeared in Nigeria at the same time. Enough of these fights here and there.

In the larger scale and scheme of things, we are all basically one people.

It was number 1 in Nigeria, Austria, Belgium, germany, Italy, The Netherlands, Israel and Sweden.

It was number 2 in the UK, Ireland, Switzerland and India.

On Billboard charts (in the US) it was number 3 on the Hot Dance Music/Club Play chart, 4 on the Hot Dance Music chart, 28 on the Modern Rock chart and 88 on the Hot 100 chart.

It was number 5 in Finland, number 13 in France, number 6 in Norway and a major hit across Africa.

The song was used in Guinness Stout adverts in Nigeria, Tampax tampon adverts in the UK, in a Bollywood movie (Baazigar) and in several adverts in France. A remix of the song was used as the title track of a German soap opera in 2013 and 2014.

Dont let hate cloud your reasoning. You dont know his novels doesnt mean school kids dont know it ( The lion and the Jewel). The only Nigerian to bag one of the biggest recognition in the world. Yes Chinue Achebe is a great Novelist but never compare him with the only Nobel Laurel ever produced in this country. Not many countries has produced a Nobel Laurel.

Very informative. Don't know why everyone is hyping wizkid, he is trying but he aint a legend yet. Being featured by american acts is fantastic for his career, but it's not a statement that he would be a music icon of academic or historical relevance.
Sunny ade,
Fela,
Sikiru adepoju,
Victor owiafo,
Raskimo,
Onyeka owenu
And maybe Tu face, are the real Nigerian icons.

I think he was able to achieve that feat because the song was released in Europe.
I don't even think he was living in Nigeria when he did the song,so I personally wouldn't consider him the only Nigerian to have had a song on the Hot 100 Chart.
It's like Ghanians/Ivorians claiming such, due to the success of Nico & Vinz.

I will love to see a Nigerian artiste who stays in Nigeria and releases his songs in Nigeria on the chart.

Now, that'll be something.
