This has been a very controversial issue both in my personal life and here on Nairaland...

Various people have opposed the idea/opinion of relocating overseas with some great valid points but I still maintain that "Abroad" is better to live than Nigeria in my PERSONAL opinion


I will be listing below various reasons why i believe "ABROAD" IS BETTER

firstly before I start, the term Aboard means various things to different people
..The Google/dictionary definition of ABROAD means a foreign country, synonyms-overseas

Even at that definition, the ABROAD I am talking about is a developed, organised sovereign Country like USA, CANADA, GERMANY, FRANCE, JAPAN, AUSTRALIA, UK etc NOT Yemen, Sudan, Senegal, Guyana etc

Security- Nigeria is no doubt an insecure Country with very unreliable security agencies, You can be robbed at any place, any time, any event..
In developed Countries, You could also be robbed, Your house/properties could also be broken into but the difference is this, the response time of security agencies in this Countries is 100x faster than Nigerian security, our Policemen come 4-5 hours after the culprits have already ran away and are probably spending their loots in another location , If you are a young man around the crime scene when naija Police comes, my brother you don enter, I no follow na 10K

In cases of Homicide, Kidnap, the follow up investigation is zero unless the victims involved are Highly placed individuals, even at the no proper equipments, Criminal database, CCTV to enable a sucessful investigation

Education- it is mostly in Nigerian institutions you will hear a lecturer boldly say in class that he/she does not give A in his/her course , or if you don't buy his/her textbook you will fail the course no matter what you write in the exams or test...
Issues of Sexual harassment

The sitting/learning situation is nothing to write about, 500 people learning in a 200 capacity lecture venue with no sits, no fan, no AC

The quality of lecture, research is very poor, have you guys wondered while most Nigerians excel exceedingly well in foreign schools...

Most Nigeria schools are strutured to Frustrate, harm and confused a Nigerian Student, You could go to school as earlier as 7am and be coming back around 6pm (who all those lectures epp)

LIGHT/POWER SUPPLY-This is a very big shame and issue in Nigeria, I have been to 'Ordinary' Ghana(Kumasi) some time ago, the Hotel i stayed , the room I was given was near their generator House, I complained that the noise will disturb me when the on the gen, that the should change the room, the Room service personale smiled and told me that the rarely use the generator, I shouldn't bother, I taught it was a joke, to my greatest surprise I stayed there for 12 days; the Generator was only used less than 4 times..I was shocked , if na Optimum hotel or Protea hotel the would have consumed over 100 liters of diesel....

This issue makes business more expensive to maintain and start, an average barber need a generator, a dry cleaner will need a bigger generator, a paper mills/Publisher/Graphics design will need a very big generator .....

I have partially lived and visited Canada/Uk, I can tell you that there was NEVER EVER power failure, even once, Never, I mean Never, as far as you pay your bills

If you have ran a business in Nigeria, that needs Power supply you will relate to what I am talking about, just Imagine the amount of money you Budget for Electricity after paying for the already ABNORMAL PHCN BILLS

Do you know some people budget as much as 250,000 Naira per month for Power supply for Business, now imagine if this money is saved or utilized for other aspects of the business...... Huge return on Investment....simple Economics

Job Opportunities/GREENER PASTURES - This is 80% the main reason Nigerians come over to developed countries......

1) Entering the Country LEGALLY, this point cannot be overemphasized, due to the organised nature of most this Countries, there immigration system is highly regulated and scrutinized......
Starting with VISA
This Countries have different types of Visa which means different things in a huge way ooo.....
I may not be able to go into all the details about the various kinds of visa for America, Canada, UK etc but lemme list few below :

Students VISA, lemme just simplify it=You can't expect to work normally with a student Visa, there are limitations to this type of Visa...

Travel/Tourist/Vistors Visa- You can't also expect to be able to secure a job with this type of Visa.....

Business Visa - this type of Visa is hardly issued to average Nigerians, due to the prequiste required for it....

With a Business Visa as the name aptly implies, you can start up a Business, join an existing company or business in the foreign country.... You can work and earn lots of money with this type of Visa


Expatriate/Residential permits/work permit.........

As the name implies, it's meant for highly skilled professionals not just any degree graduate, with this type of Visa, You can live and work in a foreign country for a given duration.......

Residential permits/Green Card/work permit = Most developed Countries have different procedures and requirements involved in issuing this.....

The are elaborate, and let us not forget Immigration policies keep Changing, for example Brexit that just happened will definitely affect immigration laws in Uk

Some Countries may require you to have lived a certain number of years in the Country
Some Countries issue permits when you have a business worth a certain amount
When you marry a citizen of that County common for most of my Naija brothers, scam marriage, arranged/fake marriage but if you are caught, your @ss will be deported straight back to Africa with a BAN inclusive

This permits are almost the apex of success and desire that all immigrants earnestly pray nd fast for......
Because with a USA, UK, Australia, Canada residential permits... Hmmmm, u don arrive well well

Meeting the right people

Going to a foreign land can be very challenging, especially for people who don't have any useful nd good relative or friends there....... Notice I said useful nd good relatives and friends.... you may actually have friends nd relatives abroad but the don't give a hoot about you, the will abandon you when you need them most, I know what I'm talking about, most Nigerians abroad hardly render any meaningful help to their follow country man


You may be lucky and you will met divine helpers as Nigerian pastors use to say

NOW the main purpose of meeting the right people is not farfetched, no man is an island and most especially as a foreigner you will need orientation and help on how things operate in the new Country, so you will survive properly, stay out of jail, adapt rapidly...
Don't carry ur Nigeria jaja mentality nd enter UK ooo
Befor u bring out ur cocck nd take a piss on the road side, or u start smoking in an enclosed bar or shop...

There are rules and regulations strictly guiding this Countries, that's part of what makes them great
