I am making an android app and i need to include a chat feature but am so confused because i have not worked on any chat app before. I am well familiar whit socket and i have done a java wifi chat application in socket. But what i need now is an online chat application but i have head of push notification service like google cloud messaging but that have too much wahala because before a phone can receive message the user need to have the updates version of google play services which am not convenient with all i need is for chat to work, i was thinking if i can implement my wifi chat in it, in a way that i will use java http servlet but i dont know how to get the server running on a web based server or i don't know if i can get the chat running, every idea is appreciated, i dont need something too big, even as small as 2go or smaller than it, what i want is a simple chat, Thanks

Am not lazy to write code all i need is someone to put me in a pathway and i will never buy or copy someone else code . What i said was java http servlet and not php. i you cant help please walk out of this thread.
