Ibadan was the centre of civilization and development in the 60s and that was why many foreigners from all over the world sojourned in Ibadan at that time to seek greener pasture in the Dubai of Africa and the envy of the World.

That was when the first skyscrapper was built in Sub sahara Africa(even before many European cities), the first highrise buildings cladded with glass, the first TV station and the first stadium in Sub Sahara Africa.

All these were when the destiny of all tribes in Nigeria was in their hands. When we had regional government based on Federalism before we where forced at gun point by some.... to had abandoned what had worked for us to adopt unitary system of Government by those seeking to establish an Empire they never had but dreamt of having by force by fire.


Now, our destiny is no longer in our hands and that is why we have to wait at the end of every month to receive pocket money from papa like one spoilt kid. Chai!

We need to wake up if at we fell into deep coma, we need to act if at all we have been pretending as if all is well.

Depends . Thing is....if they had stayed that long, we would be complaining about issues of racist behaviour/discrimination.

They have religious populations of Hindus, Sikhs, Muslims and Christians each larger than the entire population of Nigeria, yet they can organise themselves, elect their goverments and run their country to prosperity in a just, satisfactory manner. And by the way they don't have allocations. Why is Nigeria different. What is wrong with us.

No offence, but there were a lot of foreigners in Nigeria in the 1960's, 70's and even 1980's largely because we had not yet trained enough people...so we needed foreigners to run some things while they trained their replacements.

That was especially true in our University sector for example.

Infact, Balewa in his first speech as Prime Minister of independent Nigeria asked many foreigners (British) to stay to at least do their jobs until we had Nigerian replacements for them.

By the 1980's....we had trained enough Nigerians to take over....so the foreigners started leaving.

Good points....but India too has its issues with religion(Hindu v Muslim v Christian) and tribe.(To the point that there are at least two active separatist movements there...the Assamese,the Kashmiri come to mind )and even a Communist(Maoist) insurgency

It isn't the 'norm' for that to happen. I've never seen that happen and I don't know anyone that has happened to.

Keep deceiving yourself if you wish but it's clear, by all indices that the North was not (and still is not) ready to be an independent nation. Unfortunately we have a system in place that allows them to push their useless 'leaders' on the nation at large.

This is why I understand why IPOB and the Biafra agitators are so irritated and why I believe the only solution for Nigeria's ailment is full federalism.

When Anthony Enahoro was calling for indepdence in the 1950s it was the North that said they were not ready. They were still not ready in the 1960s when they murdered southerners in the tens of thousands. Every senseless pogrom since has shown they are not ready.

India suffers from religious violence and inter tribal violence.

And for a nation of over 1 billion people they punch well below their weight. They are nowhere near the level of China with similar population.

They do not have a good track record of organization, most Indian cities are testament to this fact.

And 'allocations' from tax receipts is very different from the federal government requisitioning the whole pie from one industry and then sharing the money with people who refuse to use their own resources.

nop I disagree with this, there is a clear deference between Nig nd SA in the form of goverment we practised during the colonial era and the intention of white for both countries. In Nig is all about how the British government can exploit us use our natural resources to develope Britain. But in the case of South Africa, is a mixed race of whites who has naturalised themselves as South Africans, hence there is a sincerity of purpose in developing SA.

Yea I remember this library at Ibadan..I have never seen any library like that afterward....not even at OAU, UI or Unilag can compare....There are normal reading tables and chairs, there are dining tables if u don't like the usual reading table, there are center tables and chairs to read the dailies. Peridoic seminars and speeches are held for library users.. I intend to have a library like that in my house in future.
