Hello Nairalanders,

Please I need your help. I've been in need of Corolla 05, but last week, I was shown a used Peugeot 407 car that has just been painted once but still clean and sharp. I was told it was bought last August and that the papers are still valid. On the dashboard monitor, I saw faulty ABS and airbag, the seller said they are working but the computer didn't capture them. He told me it's just the horn that is the problem but I noticed the shocks are not too good.

I'm new to cars, please what does this suggest about the ride and what to look out for before parting with my hard-earned money.

I also want to know how difficult it is to maintain Peugeot cars compared to Hunda and Toyota. Please your views will be greatly appreciated...

follow the straight and narrow way, stick to the corrola, do not be swayed by aesthetic quality of the 407. Corrola is a good wife, 407 is a GF grin

The Toyota corolla is like Wheat, it doesnt look good, doesn't taste good either, it feels light but you eat and you'd get satisfied without fear of indigestion.

The Peugeot 407 is like Pounded yam, it looks good, taste great, it is heavy, but when you eat it, you may develop constipation and flatulence.

Only a thoroughbred African man/woman will understand this parable of the wheat vs Pounded yam wink

Yea its a great car just as pounded yam is a great meal.



Despite all harrowing experiences people go thru with a freelander and other post millennial Range Rover models, people didn't stop buying them and they still didn't stop disappointing their owners/users. wink

I smell an accidented car. Honda and toyota is like driving in the day, peugeot is like driving in a rainy night. Not that all peugeot are bad, its better to buy a peugeot in good condition than to buy a lemon disguised as an orange. Once a seller starts lying, there will be more lies. You do not want a hole in your pocket.

Dont let that con man get to your money. Find what you set your heart towards and you will find peace.

lol @ was not captured by the computer if you want a 407 buy a tokunbo non converted one and you will enjoy some car brands i can never buy nigerian used notably Peugeot and Benz

Except you're in the know of faults of a Nigerian used car, irrespective of brand, I do not encourage purchase for a first time owner. Both cars are good, both reliable. However, with all that yhu outlined about the 407, I advise yhu either seek one with less faults or stick with the corolla.

why peugeot.... Why not gp for a Toyota camry (pencil).

Its better for a beginner. Apart from that, its engineer aint scarce like peugeot. Plus, parts are cheaper too.
ANOTHER one is that.... You are sure of selling it off as soon as you want. It always have a ready market.

Follow ur heart bro, 407 is sweet, I use one presently DAT I bought Nigerian used .

ABS fault and Airbag are normal on Peugeot dashboard.

I bet u d airbags r still working.
It will certainly pop out if ure involved in an accident.

If d corolla/Camry ure getting is from 2007/8 and above, u can get dem but if its 2005 below, forget it, dey are all like taxis

And 407 commands more respect and will open more doors for u Dan d regular 2006 Camry/Corola below.

Get a 407 and be happy.

If anything damages, u will replace it.

There is no car widaut problems.

Get d 407 and have fun dear.

Oga buy your corolla! If you hear Puuuuu dont allow your ear hear geoteeeee before you run! Hehehehe. One of the things that made pugeo to make name was the carburator then oooo not all these useless ones with fuel injection now trying to copy latest tech in wrong ways. That Motor Car has more faults than you think, body sags quick. No much ground clearance. Engine not as rug as Toyota. Toyota would last longer till you get tired of it. I dont know how to describe some tech terms for ya here. So its better you find a trusted Mech or close friend that has Engines Knowledge to follow or assist you. Or better ask that moniker above ''GAZZU..'' for assistance...

You're driving a very risky car. When taking a high speed maneuver or braking in wet, I bet you that car will most likely skid off the road due to absence of ABS which will also disable Anti-Skid Regulation system and Grip control in your car; and should you collide head or sideway or even rollover, that vehicle will pop no airbag. Trust me.

Your best bet is to fix these issues and not to ignore them.

go and talk to at least 3 experienced mechanics who dont repair Peugeot. however 407 should be one of the worst Peugeot car to dream of buying in Nigeria, there is this rod under that car that breaks anyhow and its sold for about 500k, i dont know why a starter like u should be thinking of a Peugeot

Go for corolla bro especially 05 to 07 models, we are in the same shoe and my research shows that corolla is economical and the maintenance is cheap too.

1. ABS means antilock brake system,it prevent d wheels from locking up when u suddenly apply d brake,which prevent accident. NOTE: when d wheels lockup u wont be able to control d steering.
2. since d horn is faulty this triggers d airbag light cos d steering ribbon is bad. the airbag,horn and seatbelt are classified under SRS(Supplemental restraint system) of a car.
3. In automedics where i work, we dont accept peugeot cos d parts are not readily available.

Guy run for run for your life,don't even dare try it,that car is meant government officials ,you got message ?if your pocket is not full no try 406 ,just go prize the shaft alone and confirm,it s a car any mechanic can handle except specialists,very sweet car to drive mostly when it some to speeding if the wahala start bro ,you are on your own oooo
