People just shouting USA will beat us haplessly. Calm down its just an exhibition game

Yh USA will win but not with that 2012 point gap. I'm very optimistic that we're getting positives from this game

I've been following the team right from Afro basket 2015 and trust me this team is doing well

2wins out of 5 in the group stages is achievable.. We can make the Olympics quarters and that in itself is great success

Bad news. One of our best players has withdrawn from the team. The NBBF can not afford to insure him.

OFFICIAL: Aminu cites ‘unresolved challenges with NBBF’ as reason for Olympic withdrawal.

Adekunle Binuyo
August 1, 2016

An official statement explaining Al-Farouq Aminu’s non-participation with the Nigeria Men’s Basketball Team at the 2016 Rio Olympic Games has been released by the media department of the Portland Trailblazers.

Per Casey Holdahl, Digital Reporter for the Portland Trailblazers, disclosed the information via Twitter on Monday July 1st, which states that the 6’9 defensive specialist will not be able to participate at the 2016 Rio Olympic Games “due to continued and unresolved organizational challenges with the Nigerian Basketball Federation.”

Aminu states he will not participate “due to continued and unresolved organizational challenges with the Nigerian Basketball Federation”

— Casey Holdahl (@CHold) August 1, 2016

Aminu’s statement hinted at a habitual occurrence of the differences with the Nigeria Basketball Federation over provision of insurance cover to enable him represents the country.

Aminu, however, hoped that the Nigerian team would fare better at the Olympic Games in his absence.

“I wish the Nigerian players, coaches and staff great success in the Olympics and hope to participate in future opportunities with the national team.” – Aminu

The Portland Trailblazers signed a four-year contract worth US$30 million in July 2015 and the amount needed to provide insurance cover for his participation on the national team is in the ballpark of US$15,000.

The 6’9 forward who was drafted 8th by the Los Angeles Clippers out of Wake Forest University in 2010 helped Nigeria qualify for its first ever Olympic outing via the Olympic Qualifying Tournament in Caracas, Venezuela in 2012 and was also a member of the historic squad at the London 2012 Games. He was also a vital resource at the 2015 FIBA Africa Men’s Championship in Rades, Tunisia where Nigeria won its first ever African title, which also earned it the ticket to the 2016 Rio Olympic Games.

Aminu’s defensive prowess, particularly in his ability to guard all five positions, and his agility will no doubt leave a vacuum in the defensive strategies of Will Voigt, head coach of the Nigerian Basketball Team.

If Al farooq Aminu is not going to play for Nigeria then it is a big blow for us, but why won't Nigeria is just pay the $15k insurance.

Our hope is still on people like Diogu and oguchi

Last time they molly whooped us 156 - 73 at the 2012 London Olympics. And adding to their accolades is an undefeated streak they've maintained since 2010. Results of their recent prep exhibition games for the 2016 Rio Olympics :
Argentina  74–111 United States
China 57–106 United States
China 57–107 United States
Venezuela 45–80 United States.
Let's see how we fair this time around coming into the game as the recent champions of Africa. smiley
