Maybe I should just chip this in, most Nigerian airlines don't have the financial muscle to outrightly buy aircraft so the best alternative is to lease aircraft and paint it in their colors. That is they hire the aircraft from a company for a fixed time which is renewable. If they default, the owners come for their aircraft. #NowYouKnow grin

Thanks bro!

The cost is really much shocked shocked

A commercial aircraft is an expensive equipment but more than likely the airplane is on lease because it's a startup airline. Most airline operators lease MOST of their fleet, purchasing can very expensive unless you have excellent credit financing.

I don't think the -300 series should cost that much because they're no longer in production. That's the cost of a brand new 737 with discount.

You can start with Turboprops like the Dash 8 Q-400, less expensive when leased. Most startups don't purchase because they simply can't afford it

For those that think Azman air is new, they've been operating for more than 1year that I know..

They're my favorite from Kano to Lagos and Abuja..
Super neat 737-300 series..neater than all arik's fleet I've travelled in

I'm in kebbi presently and I can tell you that kebbi don't need an airport! Even if they needed one, it should have been a cargo airport for the transportation of agricultural produce.

The state is dead, poor and lifeless! No economy activities, they are 80percent farmers! The only time this people use an airport is for hajj , and I believe sokoto airport can take of that. Birnin kebbi is just an hour to sokoto.

Let us see how they source their $$$$ for operational functions, I'm definitely not saying this isn't good, just saying that there's more to this. Who knows, they may get special $$$$ waivers from the CBN like Dangote does.

you southerners are just so naive. you haven't still opened your eyes to the grand plan, kill all southern businesses by tightening the economy and help northern businesses kick off. afterall 10% of our scarce forex was given to dangote, azman will also get forex. by the tym our president is done bulk of the sectors will be controlled by northern businesses.. Tsa was a ploy to kill southern dominated banking sector, not minding the consequences.

Bros yu actually believe all that Na only labana rice dey , and it restricted to sme part of kebbi self, is not yet a commercial success in kebbi.

Goto zuru in kebbi state, thai rice are still the order of the day, don't believe all you read online. Bro nothing is happening in this state!!! This state is poor as fu-ck! I often wonder how they were given a state! 25yrs anniversary and its still look socially rock bottom!

They don't have a city! I mean a city that can even come close to sokoto not to mention kaduna or kano.

Yauri, zuru, aleiru, argungu, birnin kebbi, jega all this place are sub-urban not yet urban.

What the state need is massive modernization of agriculture to reach it potential, so much land mass for nothing! Poor transportation system.

I also believe that this is not a priority.

Agriculture should be the focus of such a state and as you pointed out a cargo service will be better.

I don't know if the state will generate enough passengers to keep the schedule running considering that Sokoto is not too far away.

Nothing is impossible, but do you have funding? Starting an airline is not easy, lots of legwork and paperwork involved. The airplanes are the least item on your startup checklist.

It all starts with

a. What type of airline: the bigger the size, the greater the complexity. For instance there are small, regional, national, and international carriers. I assume you're talking about a small/regional carrier. If in the U.S., commercial scheduled airlines regardless of the size fall under Part 121 carrier.

b. After deciding the size, ask yourself: do I have funding? Each size has it's own requirement, and more stringent as it goes higher. Ideally you want to fund up to 25% of the startup amount.

c. Consult with Aviation experts in their different areas of specialty such as law, credit & finance, insurance and risk management, regulatory compliance, etc. Ask as MANY questions as you can. In fact, go prepared with your questions. More reasons why you should carryout your independent research before meeting with an expert.

d. Begin the process: start with a well written business plan. Use a business consultant to write this plan. A well constructed and researched business plan written by a field expert can cost up to $25k but it's well worth it. It would answer ALL the questions such as

I. Financial research and projections
II. Operational strategy
III. Investment and funding requirements
IV. Regulatory compliance questions and answers

In fact, these plans are so detailed that they are termed "investor ready".

e. Stay focused an committed. Yes you would encounter serious obstacles. Many people will tell you NO, only a handful will tell you yes. Improve your business skills. Like I've been told before, you're not selling the plan (that's irrelevant to the investor because he/she has seen a million type of your plan), what you're selling is yourself. The confidence that you're not drain their funds.

And the rest is, if successful, an aviation consultant will work side-by-side with you all the way to start of operations. Depending on the type of airline, immediate access to funds, regulatory red tapes, etc, a small airline can takeoff within 18 months or less.

That's true... A lot of airline operators lease most of their fleet. I just started a paper: lease vs purchase. Depending on the scenario, like I said before, purchase is often better than leasing the aircraft. Again, it all depends on what scenario you're talking about.
