Bros, all these stuffs u wrote here are synonymous with the African culture..You can't go 2 d America's or Europe and find all of these cruel treatments..The talk here should be African Feminism...But I agree with soberdrunk tho

That was because those you term feminists fought to change the way they were before. It was also practiced there. Like I said, I only gave examples.

I like your mention of African feminism.
I have listened to lots of speeches on feminism and read lots of literature on same but I keep asking myself what's feminism?
Are there different spectrum to feminism?
There's no denying the unequal treatment perpetuated by sex bias. The principle of equity and egalitarianism belongs not only to the corridor of politics but also the nooks and crannies of marriage, family, business and most importantly in opportunities access to every person.
In my discuss with some self-styled feminism 'chiefly the lady folks', I realize that the feminist cry is mostly of equality as against the 'pseudo-female supremacy' riposte of some people to anything that starts with 'f.'
However, if feminism is only about equality, why not just call it female equality or rights?

I have read many articles, listen to a lot of speeches and arguments but i am yet to fully understand the term feminism.
Feminist believe women should not be treated based on their gender but should be given special consideration in certain areas because they are women eg in the senate the wanted 50 - 50 representative but never mention if such should be applied to the military

They keep screaming inequality but yet we have Nigerian women who have contested for presidency , African woman who is a president , even highly religious countries like Pakistan has produced a female Prime Minister,

Even in the family feminist believe they should not be limited to home or house keepers but keep claiming that they have no problem cooking and doing other things the conventional woman does as a wife

They believe that responsibilities should not shared based on gender as they too can be providers for the family as the husband can do the house chores but constantly deny the fact that they intend to be above their husbands

I think the atmosphere is good enough for any women to give her best and become what ever she wants to be it just depends on what she wants or want to be seen. There is no need to implement any special law to favour or call for equality, after-all this should be against the codes of feminists because they believe they are equally strong regardless of their gender.

The man is out there competing vigorously with other men to meet up his basic responsibility at home, if he does not he will be seen or see his self as completely useless as compared to a woman who at least she bears child if not for anything else.
So been in such arena the woman can not and will never find it easy especially in a developing country like ours where we are struggling over a relatively meager resources

In every organization, there is a head. In marriage, the husband is. But in life, we were born the same. You don't go on the road looking for girls to subdue bc u were born with a joystick u didn't contribute anything to. If u hv a female superior at the office and u respect her then u support feminism.

Try reading 'Half of a Yellow Sun' dispassionately. My opinion is also reinforced by the fact that she was/is highly influenced by Chinua Achebe (a notorious tribalist).

Ok because they don't agree to your views regarding the civil war.lol.
Anyways going by your opinion, that'd be saying most Igbos are tribalists which ain't true.

Most Nigerians are, actually. Sad but true. But famous ones should at least try to mask their own tribalism. Mrs Adichie fails at that.

delishpot:

Feminism is miss interpreted by many men and women. Feminism is asking to be treated with dignity as one would treat a man.
*Man vote? Why can't women?
*a man can bail someone? Why can't a woman?
*Men can work out side the home? So can women.
*Sons can get educated? Why not daughters?
*Sons can Inherit? Why not our daughters?
*Widowers are not forced to pass through rigorous rites after the deaths of their wives, why should our women pass through it?
(These are just examples, so don't come at me abeg O)
Men and women should be held accountable for life choices. No double standards. That was what women in the past fought for. Men think it's wrong to give women equal rights in normal fields, women think men should move over. But truth is, until kingdom comes, this battle will not end.
dem go gree pay groom price and pay all the bills
No women and children first in a sinking ship,
Shebi they want to be equal

If you go gree make dem dem put you for house treat you like wife. Why not? You know how many marriages for naija today wey Na the women bring the money? You think say Na every marriage the man sponsor for naija?
If you say make women pay, I sure say dem go pay but then, men too go get to sidon for house and do all wetin she say.

Lol at women and children leaving sinking ship, shey that dey constitution, Na customary law abiding Na tradition wey must be practiced? How many danfo on fire dey do women and children first? How many boats wey sink for world dem dey do women and children first?
Plus for day to day life sef how many times that problem dey arise?
OK, dem go gree. Will that make you see your daughters as humanand as deserving equal human rights and dignity as your sons? Even though they may be physically weaker.

Illiterate go back to school. When I wrote "Anambra born Chimamanda" what it implies is that she was born to an Anambra parents..which means she is from Anambra.

Stop exposing your ignorance..

I'm an illiterate though but pls just admit that you're wrong here. Anambra born is used for people born in Anambra not people who hails from anambra. You might've intended to say that she hails from Anambra but your choice of word was wrong.

You need to go and seek for refund from primary 1 to SS3. You didn't learn anything.

"Anambra born", "Lagos born" etc. means the person was born an Anambra indigene or a Lagos indigene. It doesn't mean that the person was born either in Anambra or Lagos. They are 2 different scenario. Please learn for once..

If you do watch football, Have you ever seen David Alaba called Nigerian born b/c he has a Nigerian parent, He might be of Nigerian descent but he is AUSTRIAN BORN. Chimamanda is from Anambra but she is Enugu born Mr English Uncle.

See how disorganised and incoherent your sentences are! Are you not ashamed that you are unteachable?

Lemme break it down again. Being Lagos born or Anambra born is not the same thing as being born in those states. It simply means that the person is from the state in question. Go to school you refused but will come online to further embarrass yourself..
