Level 9 in WAEC About 70k? Guy you are not serious oooooo lol
Am level 7 and my pay is way above that

Speaking from experience, it's not all MDA's and parastatals that pay well..level 8 officer in my Office earns about 52k, I used that as a yardstick for WAEC's pay structure..if OP wants a good govt job he should talk of CBN, AMCON,NCC,SEC,NDIC,FIRS e.t.c na dis kind fit compete with BC

Please I need the advice of informed, experienced and intelligent people on this forum.

I have two job offers before me and I must make a choice between them immediately. Below is little information about the two positions.

1. EXAMINATIONS OFFICER AT BRITISH COUNCIL
This is a graduate position at the starter level of Pay Band 4 with a monthly net pay a little above N200k. The following are my points of attraction to this position:
(a) The organization has a world-class reputation
(b) The working environment is world-class and very ICT complaint.
(c) Location advantage.
(d) 13th and 14th month salaries with good pension plan.
(e) Probation period is 3 months.

Despite the above, I have some reservations which includes that the position is a junior staff position and it is an indefinite contract.

2. ASSISTANT REGISTRAR AT WAEC
This is an experienced and international position at grade level 9. The monthly net pay may be less than that of British Council above. My attractions to this position are:
(a) The reputation of the organization.
(b) The position is international and senior.
(c) The job security and the fact that it is permanent/full-time.
(d) Sure of growth and future.

But despite the above too, my reservations include that the pay may be less than that of BC and that it may not come with as much exposure as the BC.

Please, advise me on which to go for and why.
My dear friend I kneel down beg you with whatever you believe in. Assistant Registrar position is a hot cake in waec. That 200k that British Council wants to pay you is rat change compared to what you will be collecting in waec as an Assistant Registra. Take the waec job and you will thank me later for this advice.

I share your view to a large extent. Consider continuity and job satisfaction.

In addition the weac offer has a future advantage for securing a better job of higher position considering your level now, were as that of the BC is at junior level , meaning that ,there will be a limitation for securing a job of higher position in future because recruiters also use someone's last job position to weight him.

A couple of misconceptions;

BC job is not contract with a definite date; that is why it says indefinite. Indefinite means it has no limit. Hence it is permanent unless you are sacked, or you resign.

BC does not pay in Dollars or pounds unless you are NOT a locally employed staff. It is pure Naira. However, you receive an annual salary increase around 8 to 10 per cent of your current pay package. It is called Cost of Living Adjustment (COLA) to basically respond to inflationary trends. This is applicable to all BC positions Worldwide

You will not rise above Pay Band 4 unless there is an opening on a higher band. In which case, you will apply and go through the same competition with external applicants. Again, there is no horizontal movement, it is parallel. For instance, you come in at 200k per annum on pay band 4, you will only keep receiving your usual COLA every year. JD will likely remains the same, no new challenges probable. Unless there is an opening on a higher pay band and you apply and become successful. Then you move up; else, you will remain on Bank 4 until you get tired of BC and leave, but never the same pay.

The BC job is pensionable via your usual Pencom act. Monthly contribution, deducted from source etc. You have an ok health insurance etc, 13th and 14th. Be aware though, that these are all built up together to make up your annual pay.

Now, to the koko of your job. The BC exams team is one hell of a terrible team to work in. You got no breathing space. If this role is Lagos based, add backbiting and poor team cohesion to the mix. You will normally say this exists everywhere and I agree. But it is pins and needles and office politics. THERE IS A HIGH PERSONNEL TURN OVER in the Exams Team. Reason, BC does not want to hear, that the integrity of any of the exams it administers on behalf of foreign organisations was tampered with. So, any slight case of compromise puts you one leg out of the door. Be VERY AWARE OF THIS

But the job will give you exposure and challenge you. It can also be rewarding. But please, define your career path before you sign that letter.

Goodluck in your choices!

Thank you for the information you have given to me here. I am very grateful. This is a big lead.

1. If your Salary will be coming from WAEC, they there are some months that you may not get paid.
2. WAEC doesn't have a good reputation. I dont know where you got that from.
3. British council will over you a better leverage for future positions you apply for AND you will get paid your salary.

Go for a permanent job and avoid a contract job no matter how juicy it may appear initially. Contract job is a disaster waiting to happen. Be wise.

Pls get it very clear OP, An AR on level 9 earns more than dat 200k u are talking abt, and one more thing, if u eventually choose WAEC, U must keep any AJEBOTA trait aside n get ready to WORK LOL

Oh God! This is the kind of confusion I want this year in Jesus name! To your question,it is very straight forward, the British council job is a contract job, which means you are employed for a few years, although the pay is huge but I would not advise you to take it. WAEC job is a West Africa job,pay is very okay, and they earn extra allowances during exam coordination periods, job security is assured. WAEC does it! Don't be swayed with the huge pay of British council and note that opportunities comes but once. Take WAEC job o,don't go and take a contract job that in no time your services would no longer be needed. God has favoured you.

My guy, I don't know BC ,but I know of WAEC, they pay well, the salary is above average but you get a lot of allowance for supervising exams twice in a year. They have job security, the year of service is 35yrs or 60yrs just like federal govt. Their pension is sweet die. Pls go with waec and you will not regret.

bro, it actually depends on you and what your future goals are. From my point of view, takin a job with the British council will give u the opportunity to develop yourself intellectually and professionally. Being a staff you might get options for overseas training or courses, apart from the caliber people you'll get to meet within the working environment. Waec however, depending on thier organizational professionalism and ethics, might just be routine 9-5 job where you'll just be waiting for a paycheck at the end of the month. I'll advice you to do your research on both entities(if possible interview people who work at both..). You can aswell do a swot analysis (strength, weaknesses, opportunities, and threats) of both places..factor those considerations with your persona and future goals and you'll be able to derive a solution. Good luck
