Javanian:
CONSOLE APPLICATIONS

A console application is a computer program designed to be used via a text-only computer interface, such as a text terminal, the command line interface of some operating systems (Unix, DOS, etc.) or the text-based interface included with most Graphical User Interface (GUI) operating systems, such as the Win32 console in Microsoft Windows, the Terminal in Mac OS X, and xterm in Unix. why don't u use the python idle?
I only know for sublime sha
iNewton, i would advice you not to use IDLE if yu are just a novice. IDLE does too much of the work and in that way, yu might find that simple programming lingo and skills might seem strange to yu. Better you use power shell to run the codes you have written on Norepad++. And when you find yourself good enough, you can switch back to IDLE

i am a very confused person when it comes to choosing an "appropriate" programming language cry cry. i know the gurus here can help me. i read statistics and maths.
my desire is to be able to design front ends for my databases, design GUIs and desktop applications that can also serve as front ends or data analysis applications.

i know little of PHP, Python, CSS, Mysql (through video tutorials). one of my main challenge is i don't know what to do with them, especially after learning the basis..... i don't mind being an apprentice to an expert here wink grin grin

thanks in advance.

C++ is not an easy first language. Also, the technology stack (set of languages) you chose to learn do not have intuitive libraries for Desktop GUI applications development. If building front-end GUIs is your desire, you should consider tools like Tk, .NET, etc. Most of the APIs (Application Programming Interfaces) for building GUIs are learnt separately from the core Semantics and Syntax of each language.

nice one
enochval:
Hello everyone, so there's a free PHP tutorial currently going on at the code class forum (discuss.codeclass.com.ng). if you're new to php, here's an opportunity to take advantage of, to learn and ask questions when you are stuck.
Feel free to create yours too or even show everyone what you've been working on.

nibbleng omg! it depends on lots of factor. Like your chosen field..., if you do elect/elect and DIY stuffs i.e you want to communicate with hardwares and ports, you learn C. or object oriented using C# or Java or Arduino, matlab.
and C++

indeed they are all similiar. Also know that it depends on what you intend to do and achieve with what you are learning. However, tips I am giving here is to get you to start thinking like a computer scientist. The idea are kind of same, just that some of them are more complicated than others.

I will also follow the python route. It gets you in he know in a very little time and you can start doing cool stuffs. I will also advocate python for anyone still in school to help you with problem solving.

codeacademy.com
edx.org
mit ocw
codingbat.com
program arcade games with Professor vincent craven.(wonderful man and wonderful site)http://programarcadegames.com/
get this book (think python:how to think like a computer scientist)
download google pyscripter(it's light and very good)
also download Dreampie(gives you history of anything you've done and you can export it to HTML to see anything you've forgotten)

I'll say you should read the book first to give you a brief intro of what to expect and do the exercises please!!!..when things starts looking boring, drop it and go on to codeacademy and start the python class. It's interactive and pretty cool

I asked to start the book first so that you can understand the codeacademy classes quickly

if you go to the MIT and EDX class, you'll notice they also introduced programming with python

Hmmmm...seems there is something about this python !
