But why?
Re: FG Slashes Civil Servants' Salaries Weeks Before Christmas Pix by Nobody: 8:58am On Dec 02, 2016
Having read the memo, I think that what is happening is that they want to start deducting taxes/pensions/NHF contributions from the monthly salaries, instead of the annual consolidated salary like they used to do.

It may be a bit harsh.....but that is the way it is.

Also, if you want to celebrate Christmas, and you have not been putting a little aside each month over the year, or are not a member of a co-op that saves for xmas...then you better learn to do so.

I expect taxes to go up this year. Things were good under GEJ...because oil was $100 and above. Now it is $50...and for much of this year it was $30 and below. Any government that is not taking strong austerity measures now is not thinking right....they might as well ask the IMF to come and take over.

Implementing the law properly should not be termed as salary reduction. My salary was not reduced in any way because I have been paying my full tax previously. People should pay their taxes accordingly and stop complaining and misinforming the public.

As a civil servant how are you supposed to personally pay your taxes?

Did you pay your tax or was it deducted from source before you receive it?
Greed is written all over this government. No deduction from the salary of political office holders and legislators, and i bet they don't pay tax as you pay (or claim to be paying). They should first address the reasons why we pay tax (electricity, road and water) since we have been paying tax since we were born

The deductions are statutory so there should no media or press war over this. Thank God they are not told to pay unpaid backlogs

Senators and other class of politicians enjoy full allowances and benefits, they are planning to increase taxes on business and individuals to live their randy lifestyle.

Well.. enjoy the chains.

Please talking nonsense. Civil servants do not pay their taxes directly. The govt deducts their taxes at source.

At source means that their taxes are removed and so also pension, loans, etc by the accounts dept before they are paid.

Many companies do that also.

Stop displaying you ignorance.

The person you are thanking is an ignorant fellow. Civil servants don't pay their taxes personally. Govt deducts all taxes before paying salaries. If there is an error in tax payment, it is the fault of the government not the civil servants.

Infact the right thing to do is to deduct the backlog of the deduction of time, if we in private sector pay all our due we don't they, beside the report shows as if is the entire civil service when is just a small parastatal under ministry of information called VON that the deduction happen, I think people need to read and be objective

Why not only cut the stipends of senior government officials who enjoy more benefits than the ordinary civil servants? It's horrible!

Stop saying nonsense. Aren't you aware that Nigerian Universities have been having salary shortfalls from the FG throughout the year ? Some are even on 50% salaries for a while now.

No organization either government or private sector pays tax individually but deductions are made before payment and this is what happened now that they are wailing, because a corrupt or ignorant officer did not do his work in past does not mean it should continue forever, everybody must pay his taxes and pension and NHF are like statutory esusu so I don't know what the fuss about, moreover this only happened in VON which is a small parastatal under FMI

Bros it did not happen only on VON. Don't tell me that the same group of ignorant officers has been preparing the salaries of all those involved in this deduction since more than 6 years ago.

Yes IPPIS has been paying since 2012. Why is it now that the govt discovered that the civil servants are wrongly taxed? (now that they are looking for a way to tax everything)

To say this Buhari govt is clueless as to how to get us out of this recession is an understatement. This clearly shows his cabinet is constituted of dunce and dullards of which he is number one. HOW DO YOU GET AN ECONOMY OUT OF RECESSION?
1. Increase government spending.
2. Tax cuts.

First of all, government fiscal policy can be in the form of government spending and tax regulation.

In order to bring economy out of recession, government can do two things. It is either increase the government spending and/or cut the tax.

By increasing government spending, government saves the idle production outputs and hence sustain the production activities. The continued productions benefits people by giving them wages, interest, rent, and profits. In the end, people's income and buying power increase.

Secondly by cutting the tax, government let people have more disposable income. Disposable income is an income AFTER tax. The intention for a more disposable income is that people are able to spend more in the markets and hence sustain the economy.
How people still support this man vehemently gives me the creeps, the man is clueless, doesn't take to correction, dull and evil...simple!!

You claim to be FG staff and say this. Do you know the difference between consolidated and gross. Who taxes the small allowances workers still get? Chains..... This means I pay for my pension and NHF from my housing allowance ( the only allowance I see on my payslip since all other allowances have been consolidated. )
