endtime1:Can u xplain the concept of parking orbit in relation to watching live programs, matches e.t.c. Also xplain what results in loss of visual/audio signals during broadcast of live programs, matches e.t.c. pls i will appreciate ur response; and our physics teacher said we shouldn't lift everything from Google. Thanks in anticipation. |

First what is a parking orbit A parking orbit is a temporary orbit in which a spacecraft awaits the next phase of its mission. Satellites which are artificially made can represent this spacecraft when launched into space in line with the earth's speed of rotation, this helps satellites that belongs to TV/radio stations to orbit the earth at the same speed. Tv/ radio stations satellites have orbits at a carefully chosen distance of about 36,000 km (22,000 miles) from the surface. This "magic" position ensures they take exactly one day to orbit Earth and always return to the same position above it, at the same time of day(helps to make live transmission easier). A high-Earth orbit like this is called geosynchronous (because it's synchronized with Earth's rotation) or geostationary (if the satellite stays over the same point on Earth all the time). Communications satellites—our "space mirrors"—are usually parked in geostationary orbits so their signals always reach the satellite dishes pointing up at them. 1 Like 1 Share |

ethene: In simple physics terms loss of signals is a result of interferance between the transmitter and the receiver , interference could be in form of changes in weather condition, noise from air planes , encountering a barrier like mountains or a body of water all these interference can lead to loss of signal |
