I don't think you should be comparing yourself to the WEAKEST. A local champion is not really 1

Ok.... South Korea is better economic wise than Nigeria yet they have a weak currency. $1-1117won.

That's leadership!

Some countries like Vietnam allow their currencies to have a low exchange rate to boost their export.

Check Japanese and Chinese exchange rate to the dollar and your mouth will be agape for 45minutes

so true, these Asians know what they are doing. It is true exchange rate manipulations that China became a super world power economically and politically today. since their currency is closer and nearer to most countries currency, people would prefer to deal with em than European countries e.g who would prefer to buy a product from U.K when you get three times a cheaper rate with likely same quality.

Indonesia is a .fu.cki.ng example, Indonesia is a super developed country in Asia, but our 400,000 naira is their 13 million rupiahs, does it mean our economy is better than theirs? for where, most exporting Asian super giants even manipulate to ensure that their exchange rate to the dollar remains poor.

Iran''s case should tell you that value of currency is only an issue if you are not self-sufficient and have to go about importing

1.IRANIAN RIAL

The Iranian Rial is the currency of Iran and it is the weakest currency in the world. 32,037
Iranian Rial is exchanged with 1 US dollar. This is an irony considering the fact that Iran is blessed with oil. But then, the Iran-Iraq war, Israeli attack as well as the sanctions (very important one is not being able to export oil) from the world superpower are the reason for making the Iranian currency weak.
OP. you didn't includes the Zimbabwe's currency

3. VIETNAMESE DONG

The Vietnamese Dong is the third lowest
currency in the world, it is the currency of
Vietnam, a socialist country in South East Asia.
22,482 Vietnamese Dong is exchanged with
one dollar. Vietnam is still on its hard path from the centralized economy type to the market one and consequently, it currency almost devalued today. However, experts insist that Vietnamese Government is going the right way and soon it can catch up with its closer Asian neighbors.
Vietnamese dong..De name of dis currency dey funny me it sounds like cow dunk..Wot of Zimbabwean currency na?I here say loaf of bread na 1.5million for dem currency.
Educative tread sha.

The value of a country's currency in relation to the USD does not tell the full story.

Truth234, come in here wink

Rightly said, South Korea Won is currently 1117.60 to a US dollar, yet the economy is far better than Nigeria.

Lower exchange rate is actually an economic strategy to aid exports and create local jobs. Nigeria first implemented it in 1973 when we first devalue the Naira against the US dollar by 10 percent to bolster our exports but after oil boom, our exports decline and so is the relevance of such strategy. Happy Sunday.

Iran is a very good example of how the west can destroy the currency of any country, even if they have crude. And I was here yesterday arguing with some people telling me crude oil is the alpha and omega for stabilizing a nation's currency.

Bt Iran still has a much more better economy than Nigeria. The issue of currency values affect a country's economy if dey are d importing type.

Currency strengths are not rated by their Dollar equivalent.
They are rated by their PPP (Purchasing Power Parity).
I guess Economics is not a layman's course, after all.

Oh! And by the way, I'm a proud Economist.

I have been in Iran and from my experience back then I think life is easier and better over there when compared to Nigeria. Despite the western ban and limitations they were still doing fine. Iran is the only country where I have felt like a celebrity for just being a black man.

It is not just how much a currency exchange against the dollar that makes a currency weak.

What of countries like Korea (or maybe Japan) that devalued currency deliberately because it was better for their economy.

Has the purchasing power of that currency within the country been evaluated?
What about trend analysis? How often does that currency fluctuate?
Also other macro and micro economic factors.
. That's the point bro. It's not how much it exchanges for a dollar. How about the purchasing power? The Vietnamese economy is doing fine. I was in Vietnam last year and what i discovered was that 20 000 Vietnamese d0ng could barely buy you a cup of coffee. I think the Op missed the point by focusing on the number

5. INDONESIAN RUPIAH

Unexpected on ourlist of top 10 lowest
currency in the world. Simply put, Indonesia is economically stable and developed country in South East Asia, though the currency has a low exchange rate, despite all effort to make it strong by the economic team of the country. A USD is worth 13,425 Indonesian Rupiah.

Indonesia is not an economically stable nation nor is it developed.

OP is talking rubbish.

Having a strong Naira against Dollar is of major concern here simply because we're over reliant on importation. A country like South Korea that have a long distance relationship with Dollar is doing well because they depends on their locally produced products and services.
