Good evening nairalanders, i am back again and i need ideas on how to cut down cost and as well get good thing... I just finished roofing and doing d plastering which means we have done d wiring but honestly wiring alone cost a whole lots of money (over 2m on wire alone from coleman). Now i am running out of cash and d little i have left i need to tile d house. For now i need good and veru affordable tiles (i dont mind nigeria tiles), cheap and good doors for entrances (i dont mind iron doors so far it is strong and beautiful).Good and cheap sanitary wares (any good one aside tyford). Also i need to put light in d house (any idea of where to get it cheap). Also for painting, i need good paint that ia cheap and will not fade. Moreso, if not for my kids that are small, i woudnt have done d railings but i have to do them. Pls if you have idea of where to get all these cheap and i wouldnt mind...

It's your money, so spend it as you wish.

Buying Nigerian shouldn't be looked at as a substitute due to economics. We should support these foreign companies that have made sizeable investment in our country by buying their products and growing the Naira.

I used Nigerian made doors, tiles and toilet equipments. I feel very proud and owe no one any apology.

I was going to get into all the Spanish/Italian/Turkey brouhaha until my Togo tiler told me "Oga come make we go Iwo road, I'll open your eyes". Some of the tiles being professed as imported are actually repackaged Nigerian made.

If I were you, I would enter your local tile selling area and look around. Leave your ATM card at home because you're not buying just yet, you are only going to get education.

Good luck.

God will help you to complete the remaining one cable expensive anyway. You can visit orile for tiles and WC based on your budget. For WC you can go for hanging time instead of close couple type, its a bit cheaper than close couple.

@Astrogeotech. Pls clarify. By installation, do you just dig the foundation to install the overhead tank? or do you construct the scaffolding for an overhead tank? If you do the welding, construction and all, please give me a quote for a 40-feet overhead tank with 4mm H beams. Thanks.

Have you gotten the mail i sent you

What a real and good statement and advise. @Kopell told me about that same repackaging business.
I bought some Nigerian Made Tiles too and they are very good.
Don't overlook Nigeria Made Tiles o... as per my good friend @Write2obi a nice Tiles seller in the East, and I listened.

Mine wasn't a duplex and cost about the same 2M. Original Cables are not cheap right now from manufacturers.

I'm glad you are loving your tiles chief, we've come a long way in tiles production, gone are the day when local manufacturers are scared to put their logo and "made in Nigeria" at the rear and pack of their tiles. CDK Ceramics and West African Ceramics are really setting the pace and Time Ceramics and Goodwill Ceramics are not far behind.

A Nairalander was at my office last week looking for white porcelain Spanish or Italian tiles, i showed him our samples and their prices, he needed about 1800+sqms, so as expected the money involved was huge, he said he'll need to leave the tile purchase until his next visit to Nigeria due to the funds involved.
Then i asked him a question ; why Spanish or Italian? Why not Nigerian? . He scoffed at my mention of Nigerian tiles.
Then asked him if he'll like me to show him made in Nigeria white porcelain tiles, just to see not touch or buy grin . He said ok, then i showed him the samples and.
He was so impressed and decided to go with Nigerian tiles and saving alot of money. Local manufacturers are uping their games and the competition is becoming more and more intense both price wise.

Some Nigerian made tiles are just okay. But don't compare sleep and death or compare heat burn and fire burn. Spanish and Italian tiles are 5-10 higher in grade than Nigerian tiles. Those white tiles you displayed up there were copycat of some well known Spanish tiles. They look a lot better than the Nigerian ones of the same design. Those buying those Nigerian tiles you displayed only doing so because of the cost. If they had a choice, trust me they won't buy those Nigeria made tiles that are Spanish and Italian copycat.

If it is not Panadol, it is not the same thing as Panadol.

I really enjoyed your lessons on Tiles and the various sample pics you sent me on Whatsapp. So I mixed Italian, Spanish and Nigerian tiles.
Thanks for sharing your knowledge. I have so many collections of tiles samples that it even affected my purchase; too much to chose from.
If you were in Lagos area, I would have patronize you too. Thank you.

You are right. Money and budget dictate anything in life. But there is a an alternative to Panadol.... Generic Medicine.
I had to mix the tiles because I was going to buy all my 955 sqm tiles in High grade Spanish or Italian only, then the cost will be like starting another project. And since I am a kobo-kobo man like some people here, I went for mixing the Italian/Spanish tiles for all the busy or high traffic areas and Naija made tiles for not so busy area. Our pockets are not the same. Fingers are not equal.
So you are right, I did not have a choice but to mix.

Question for esteemed people on the thread.

Are cabinets such as this available in Nigeria?

If I don't ask I won't know.

Thanks.

I think he said it's after it rains? Then his building is just facing frontal rainfall. Pipe leakage is also suspected.

Oga KolaShangOne, thanks so much for your input, I really appreciate it.
But for this, there are no pipes below or above these Windows and the walls below them are usually so soaked. The soak easily permeates inwards to the internal walls (block used is 9 inch hollow) and stays soaked for weeks. Could there possibly be leakages within the casement frames? If that is a possibility, is there a solution?

On the leaking roof, the gauge is 0.45mm. Meanwhile, is changing the sheets within the leak area a possible solution or would it create another problem? Also despite the challenge of correction, do we have roofing guys who can handle this effectively? If not, how can one protect his POP from this challenge?

... in a fix of resolution... embarassed

Other experts in the house, please any other alternatives, please help oooo?

Thank you for the simple analysis, the repacking and relabeling is the order of the day, because people think everything that was stamped with a specific country on it; is always the best. That's why you see all of these brand names are reproduced as counterfeit.

I am asking these questions for precautionary measures and to gain knowledge,
1.How do you repair POP when the roof leaks and give those dirty " Map of bugunda" all over it.
2. Is there a way of climbing inside POP to carry out any form of repairs.

1. If the POP is not badly damaged yet, it can repaired by repainting the area... but if it has been damaged seriously.... then replacement of that part is the only solution.
2. Yes, they can go inside the roof (but carefully) to see the POP if this is at the wood carcass top level. But if it is under the decking slab... not possible o.

Ok cool.
I was wondering Bc POP is generally sealed all through, unlike normal ceilings or gypsum ceiling where the carpenter will create entry ways to the roof. Does it mean they cut out an area of the POP or what.

They usually leave a small opening entry into the roof somewhere, but it will look like regular POP too until pushed inside to open.

See the rectangular shape on the POP area below, look carefully.
