Most airline passengers will have seen London's Gatwick Airport as they take off and land but it's normally a glimpse, and sometimes from between fingers for nervous fliers.

These stunning photographs offer rare unobstructed aerial views of the airport from directly above it.

They were taken by renowned New York photographer Jeffrey Milstein as he hung out of a circling helicopter.

The airport, which is awaiting a government decision on whether it can expand.

'Recent months at Gatwick have also seen an increase in cargo volumes up 31 per cent on average of every month of the last quarter'

Air traffic

Aviation officials are preparing for today to be the busiest-ever in UK skies.

The National Air Traffic Services (NATS) expect to handle a record-breaking 8,800 flights in and out of the country on Friday, July 21.

And this transfixing footage shows just how hectic that looks on a screen, with planes looping around Britain - the heaviest air traffic concentrated to London's Heathrow, Gatwick, Luton and Stansted.

Control Tower.

The National Air Traffic Services (NATS) expect to handle a record-breaking 8,800 flights in and out of the country on Friday, July 21.

Today marks a high-point of the country's busiest-ever summer, with 770,000 flights scheduled between June and August an increase of 40,000 from last year.

AIR TRAFFIC CONTROL: HOW DOES IT WORK?

Air traffic control aims to move planes safely and efficiently through the airspace system.

Controllers keep aircraft set distances apart while moving them from airport to airport using designated routes.

Before take off, airlines will file a flight plan with air traffic control so every controller who deals with the flight on its journey is aware of its details and route.

When an aircraft is at an airport, the pilots on board will be in contact with controllers in the airport's control tower.

Air traffic controllers will monitor the aircraft while it is on the ground and give it permission to take off.

Lol.....That's why i said Hollywood grade.

Most of these pro photographers will never go for that because the quality of the image is very important to them.

They consider stability, pixels, control range, auto focus , home return, and like that.

You cant compare what a $5k drone will do with that of a $300.

Most of the $300 - $500 drone will come with 2MP camera, low flight time and short range.

Is like comparing Canon EOS 5D Mark IV ($3,299) and Canon EOS Rebel T5 $399.

What am saying is photographers like this guy, pete souza or other professional photographers will go for what will give them the best quality.

Pictured is DJI Phantom 4Pro, for photography, the pros go for something like this, but for movies, they use something better.

Is about $1,500, 20MP, 30 mins flight time, obstacle sensors, auto return to point of takeoff, it can track you and follow you where ever you go making a video.

About the Air traffic Control bit...

I noticed the photos you put up are some of the futuristic plans of UK; that technology (as seen in the pictures) is not yet in use. Summarily, it will allow Control tower to monitor flights on screen even if the control tower is situated hundred of miles from the Gatwick Airport!
