Are there are no privacy laws in Nigeria. Did the patient give consent for these pictures? Where is the proper lighting equipment for surgery? Such a shame! |

Nltaliban:This one sef small, i took someonne for an emergency surgery in a hospital somewhere in portharcourt. The doctor called the staff to put on the generator they said no fuel. we had to put on a lantern i mean the kerosine type lol.... The nurse couldnt hold the patient because of too much flow of blood. she sai she couldnt stand it. I the person that brought the victim had to hold the patient and help the doctor all through the procedure. Naija i hail thee... Everybody go dey worry buhari while they have not put their ass together. Even if Biafra exist tomorrow i will never stay there talk of to invest one naira in that land. innosaint27:No evidence that it was a doctor/surgeon who did. The team has various people including students of various healthcare professions. We all know that every surgeon would like to work using the best facilities possible but we're talking of 9ja here. While antibiotics could prevent sepsis post-surgery, the poor lady would likely die without surgery. 1 Like |

innosaint27:There is nothing unprofessional about the picture. The patient's identity was not reviled. As long as there is no way to link the picture with individual, the doctor did not violate any laws or professional standards. Patient confidentiality and privacy are the main concerns here, and they were protected. The patient could seek redress if any identifiable information was attached to the picture. However, if consent was obtained, then the doctor have no case to answer. I have read somewhere here where someone wrote that the doctor might not have been aware of the picture being taken. This might not excuse the doctor from being liable. The patient is under his care. Remember, there are two types of negligence. One is intentional negligence while the other is non intentional. The harm caused by both are usually the same. Tort claims ensure that the patient is restored to their former selves or state no matter the intentions of the doctor. N/B if need more lectures on medical ethics, pm me Cheers |

When has it become the norm to advertise medical practice? The torch as a direct pointing source of light for a better view should not be a headline news lalastica take note |

God bless Nigerian Drs and nurses. mccoy1111: Please don't make this about political parties. Nigerian surgeons and their theatre staff have been using Torchlight, lantern since time immemorial. No govt has ever been able to meet the needs of the health sector. Study the budgets of all different govts and you will always see where health is placed in priority. 1 Like |

sonnie10: I hope you won't bother being cut open in a poorly lighted & non sterile room. That wasn't a planned surgery but an emergency, so where did the doctor get the consent of a patient under anaesthesia? Someone definitely not the doctor took the photos but certainly not without the doctor's nod. While I thank them for saving that patient's life, I can't help but say, the procedure was done aseptically. Did you see any of them properly kitted for surgery? Anyways, it is no use trying to educate you on this thread cos you don't appear to know right from wrong. Talking about you lecturing me on medical ethics, I am very open to learn, but not from a mediocre! 1 Like 1 Share |

AreaFada2: Nigerians always have a way of justifying wrongs, Saving the patient's life is paramount no doubt, But, doing it right is also important. You think antibiotics work for every patient? Guess you have never heard of antibiotic resistance as a result of its abuse. The patient's medical history is not know cos its an emergency, the more reason why the surgery should have been done aseptically. |
