Niger State Governor, Sani Bello, has increased the salary of health workers in the state to meet the Federal Government standards.

Niger State Commissioner of health, Dr Mustapha Jibril, who made this revelation while speaking to journalists in Makkah, Saudi Arabia, added that the state has also engaged over 400 workers in the health sector.

Dr Jibril, disclosed that two years into Bello’s administration in the state, the government has increased its service delivery to the people.
In his words; “In health, the administration is revitalizing the Primary health Care System through Niger Health 1.0. We are also upgrading and renovating existing General Hospitals in some local government areas.
“Also, there are renovation ongoing at School of Nursing Bida, School Midwifery, Minna and School of Nursing Kontagora.
“This is to enable the schools meet international standards and attain full accreditation for the first time since the schools were established.

“In the last two years, Governor Sani Bello lead administration has provided free general surgery and free eye surgery for about 4000 Nigerlites.”
The Commissioner reiterated the commitment of appointees to ensuring that Governor Sani Bello, lead administration continued to touch lives of the people .

And here we have the statist, rent-seeking mindset of the average Nigerian on display: since when has the primary purpose of governments been to increase the number of employees on their payroll without limit? Isn't a better government one which delivers the same services with fewer workers? Would you be so quick to demand more public sector workers if you held a private sector job and were supporting them from your taxes, rather than relying on Niger-Delta "oyel" money to do so?

Anyone praising this stupid governor is doing so out of rank ignorance. The reason why most Nigerian states aren't seeing any economic development is precisely because of popularity-seeking governors who extend the public sector so much that they can't even pay their salaries when hard times come and federal allocations go down, let alone invest anything in meaningful infrastructural development, education or healthcare. Nigeria has far, far too many public sector workers already, at all levels of government, and most of them are utterly incompetent at the jobs they (mostly pretend to) do.

Yes he done well by increasing the health sector salary. This increase has seen a "common certificated extension health worker" of "level 9" go home with a better pay than a "level 16" principal. What is he trying to preach?
Teachers has seen health and judiciary worker eclipse them in all ramification. If an extension worker goes home with an amount better than a principal, then you can imagine how much a doctor will be paid. His/her salary will be enough to pay at least 4-5 teachers in level 10.
Is it a crime to be teacher in Nigeria? After nurturing future talents to greatness, that same teacher that taught him will still be in the same place. If this injustice can not be addressed here, surely it's going to addressed in the hereafter.

not every salary increase by a state govt is a good news for the people...what should be asjed is if the increament is sustainable by the govt..again what percent increase in govt revenue was withness,again if the increase is going to affect the rate of capital project execution?...lets not jump up at all tym wen we hear about increased salary..some of them may just be for political manipulation of the peoples conscience...
