The law was not issued from Abuja but enacted by the ELECTED REPRESENTAIVES of the good people of Lagos and will be signed by their GOOD GOVERNOR. The Ram is tied to the stick wondering why they are boiling water. The chicken greets him saying Barka I hear say dem see moon yesterday. You see am?? 1 Like |

kn23h:First of all,i'm not against the fact that you want to preserve your language by making it a compulsory subject in schools. I have asked very simple questions which a supposedly educated folk still can't answer. Is this compulsion exclusively for Yoruba students or will it be an elective for non yorubas? Will the rights of other migrants be protected/respected? Does it feel appropriate if Yoruba students are forced to learn Efik in Calabar and Kirike language in Okrika rivers state being fully aware that some Yorubas have families in the aforementioned states? |

kn23h:There is no problem since you decline all attempts to make you reason like an adult. If a state as diverse as Lagos can make such compulsion on non yorubas then yoruba folks should get ready for their children to be forced to learn Igbo in Enugu, Igbani in Opobo/Bonny and Urhobo in Warri in the nearest future. It is as simple as that. |

kn23h:I'm no longer arguing. I'm only saying your kids should get ready to learn Ibibio, Igbo, Urhobo and other languages of their immediate environment because those languages must be preserved. That solves the issue. |

kn23h:If you are looking for a truly cursed and friendless people look no further. They act on insticnct without considering the consiquences just like animalls. If you keep the food of a rat on a trap it just rushes the food without thinking it might be poisoned. Yorubas are their daddy any d.a.y. They think life is about making noise on the streets or internet .The bill has been passed and Ambode will sign if before Christmas so those that don't like it should not come back from Onitsha when they go for Christmas. Me I know for a fact say dem no born dem to go court though I would very much like them to go . It is an interesting jurisprudential point and I think the legal arguments would be quite interesting and quite far reaching beyond the realm of just language.Court cases are part of the democratic process and a useful way of clarifying the unclear I wonder why they never challenged the enactment of sharia 6 Likes |

kn23h:You are the one being ridiculously repetitious. The bill will only end up giving rise to a situation where yoruba kids are also forced to learn other languages that must be preserved. My comment is quite understandable unless you insist on dropping same comments all over again. |

KemjikaEme: If a Yoruba man decides to train his child in Enugu and they enforce Ibo, that's fine with me. It's the Yoruba man's choice to train his child outside of Yorubaland. I encourage every region to pass this law. When regionalism comes, many things will change. Get ready for it. 8 Likes |

aribisala0:I feel you are celebrating the passing of the bill because you think it is obviously a good way of alienating igbos. Quick question. Why do you think igbos are the only group that will be affected by such absurd laws? If such compulsion is enforced around the country, will you be comfortable to see a yoruba child learn Igbo in Onitsha given your hatred for them? |

kn23h: Why are you still wasting your time going back and forth with that character? They're 'one-way-traffic'; na 'go' dem dey hear, dem no dey hear 'come'. Why else do you think they have flat-heads?? Na coz their brains are missing some essential white matter as a result of that signature flatness of their heads (I guess in that case, they were 'marginalized' [as usual] by their maker while [complete] brains were being distributed to other races/ethnicities ). Which also explains why they're always butting heads with everybody else and can hardly be reasoned with. No waste your time any further abeg. 10 Likes 1 Share |

KemjikaEme: NO Ibos are irrelevant to me. Totally irrelevant and inconsequential. I celebrate the bill because it mean my kids can now develop in their mother tongue . A very exciting future awaits when I think what will happen in fifty years . In Arts science mathematic and technology ALL IN YORUBA. I look forward to Engineering in Yoruba one day . Many of the world classic books can be translated to Yoruba language. I look forward to Achebe's Things Fall Apart in Yoruba. So for me I am excited about the opportunities While all you see is a bitter twisted narrative of Ibo targeting Personally I will never advocate any punishment for Ibo children if they and their parents decide to passively resist i,e go to school without being disruptive and faill every single Yoruba class.. As long as it is done in a way that does not poison the school atmosphere that is theiir right but there will be further Yorubanization of the state and a time will come when it will be difficult to get a job in Lagos if you don't speak Yoruba. We do not envision a future in English. We see the death of English in Lagos and hopefully other Nigerian languages as second languages. Personally unlike you I want my children to learn Ibo too. and other languages as well from across Nigeria but in Lagos Yoruba first Because the Ibos are so filled with hatred for the Yoruba they project that on to Yorubas assuming Yoruba must feel like them. Their are hundreds of Ibos in the LASG civil service .FACT . Yorubas are accommodating but we cannot accept a people who seek to undermine our culture. The Oshodi Famili are Tapa from Nupe they are not Yoruba. Who remembers today. That is what integrating means .Either you are in or out .The choice is yours no one will force anyone who does not really want to learn but the kids must sit in the class. They are free to block it out and even answer questions in Ibo on the exam day that is their choice Ibos have every right to be present physically in the state as Nigerians but the state is a Yoruba state and that means in future it willl be impossible for no speakers of Yoruba to be in government roles. If a child is born and raised in Lagos and deliberately refuses to learn the language then we must assume he is passing through and not interested in integrating 4 Likes |

kn23h:Yes,why does he need to decide? Does he need to decide if he truly considers the East as part of Nigeria where he can raise his children and live a comfortable life. Does he need to decide being fully aware that he has the right to settle down in the East? If Yorubas believe in One Nigeria, why do they need to take decisions before raising their in kids in the East? |
Re: Lagos House Of Assembly Passes Yoruba Language Bill Into Law by KemjikaEme: 11:09pm On Oct 20, 2017 |
aribisala0:Isn't that what i already opined? There is no need to create any compulsion for other groups to learn Yoruba where yoruba is not their mother tongue. I'm a linguist and can tell you the many implications of doing so. That also supports the idea that the members of the house have little knowledge of what they are doing on that platform. I realize that you substitute Igbo for where you should put migrants/other ethnicities because of your deep seated resentments. That still proves that you feel igbos are the only minorities that will be affected by the bill. My second question is still unanswered. How do you see a scenario where Yoruba kids are forced to learn Igbo in Onitsha and forced to pass through the class regardless of the level of unexcitement? |

aribisala0:Can you also provide evidences to prove that Igbos hate Yorubas? What i see here is some form of delusion and preconceptions formed by years of reading and posting nonesense on nairaland. Also show me how they undermine your culture? |
Re: Lagos House Of Assembly Passes Yoruba Language Bill Into Law by aribisala0(m): 11:19pm On Oct 20, 2017 |
KemjikaEme:School rules for children must apply to everyone . We cannot recognixze so called other groups. The rule is the schools must offer and teach Yoruba to all pupils. If the pupil feels strongly about it they can put cotton wool in their ears. You are a linguist ? Can you please stop talking nonsense. What is a linguist and how is that relevant? Your argument would have some meaning if you attacked the fact that French is a compulsory option in the national curriculum but your problem is not about making a language compulsory but that that language should be Yoruba Nigeria is not the first nation to do this. India has several languages and states just like Nigeria. In some states in India it is not just the language but ALL instruction in primary school is in the relevant language except English Language. In Belgium they have similar practices in Flemish Areas. In the UK the Welsh languae is compulsory in Wales the skies are still upstairs In fact Welsh language was virtually dying but for the introduction of compulsion 4 Likes |

If French can be made compulsory why can't Yoruba in Yorubaland. The truth is this is just about resentment to Yoruba and their hold in Lagos. 4 Likes |
Re: Lagos House Of Assembly Passes Yoruba Language Bill Into Law by KemjikaEme: 11:38pm On Oct 20, 2017 |
aribisala0:First of all, French is not Lagos a wholly diverse area in Nigeria. French is a language of an European country with colonies scattered around Africa and most of the countries surrounding Nigeria are Francophone countries therefore it is imperative that people pick conversational french to facilitate communication in West Africa. French is one of the official language of Ecowas and a top language in Africa. How can you compare French an international language with Yoruba a language that is not spoken by all Nigerians. There is a reason why French and English are official languages because they serve as a formal lingua franca to people with different mother tongues. So why do you think Nigeria didn't make yoruba, hausa or igbo compulsory for all this while? Welsh and India are countries not states. |
