Umuahia – Gov. Okezie Ikpeazu of Abia has promised to give N1 million financial assistance to anyone that would invest in ranches and animal husbandry in any part of the state. Read more at: https://www.vanguardngr.com/2017/12/ikpeazu-promises-n1m-grant-investment-ranches-animal-husbandry/ |

1m isn't that much but its better than nothing. Can 1 million buy a cow. His measure will pay off if he improves incentives. I see open grazing ban passing in Abia in 2018. Cc: igbodefender 1 Like |

It is not about giving out the N1m. Abians needs to be educated on what ranching is all about through the state's ministry of agriculture by running some weeks features on it on TV. They should go to YouTube and watch how Kenya's Seed of Gold packaged urban diary farming, one will feel like going into diary farming the next day! They should offer training to intending farmers transferring knowledge on best practices, how to formulate feeds, best breed for milk production, fattening techniques and innovative ideas such as hydroponics, where within a small space fodders are being grown for the cows then converting the cow dung generated in the ranch into cooking gas for the farmer and his neighbours. It is beyond offering one million naira. 13 Likes 1 Share |

Blue3k2: It is definitely a step in the right direction. It will at least create mini ranching, and kickstart a vibrant ranching sub sector in Abia- if properly implemented. But the government has to do a more indepth cost analysis to make sure the N 1 million can take care of the livestock purchase, hay, irrigation, etc. The private sector, through tech innovation can also do a lot to reduce costs. Politicaly, this will also give significant political cover to the move to eradicate the conflict-causing open grazing and forestall the unjust grazing reserves dream of some. If properly implemented it will also provide additional proof of success for people who are sceptical about ranching. All in all. Great move that may in fact be the chrysalis of a new industry in Abia. Lalasticlala come and see N 1 million business opportunity for entrepreneurs o! 1 Like |

It's a welcome idea only if the illiterate fulani herdsmen will embrace it. I keep saying this, u can call a lion a goat,...... lion will never eat yam but raw meat, same goes to these blood sucking herdsmen, most of them don't want peace because they have mission. Let's wait and see what happens next |

Seriously, when the Igbos decide to enter into the business another tribe or people are known for, sincerely speaking, it means that the other tribe or people need to buckle up. I have actually dreamt of when the Igbos will delve into this aspect of agriculture and business... Please I want sincere reply. What is the possibility of the Igbos making exploit in this kinda business like the other ones they are known for? 1 Like |
