OMANBALA1:

But Iheanacho and Iwobi has not played well for the Super Eagles. Take away Iheanacho's 2 goals against Argentina and Iwobi performance against Zambia and you realize they have been abysmal. Its funny how people think Iheanacho and Iwobi did well against Argentina...Do you know how many clean passes sprayed to this guys that they cant keep. Hyping these guys, especially Iwobi is not helping him...That his one two simple passes will not help him. Iheanacho need to pranctice how to trap a ball without losing it like 20,000 times every sing gaddem day!

I beg to differ.. Kelechi had a brilliant second half against Argentina, he looked full of confidence after the goal. Apart for the Algerian games, Kelechi's record for Nigeria speaks for itself.

Iwobi seems to have come into his own for Nigeria. He has a few bad games at the beginning of the qualifiers but was really good in the last few games.

No, he did not. He lost the ball on many occasion on one on one. Kelechi gets confused and jittery whn a defender is in his face. Same with Iwobi , but the difference is that Iwobi will quickly pass the ball and run away for fear of blunder...sad

Well, you may be right about indian having clubs that are over 100 and having interest in football but what is the fraction of the population interested in football since independent till just recently?

50%, 60%, 80%, 100% or 0.01%?

Indians are cricket lovers though recently things are changing.

I have met thousands of them in a gathering and when it is time for sports, they normal choose basketball over football.

India is predominantly a country fascinated towards Cricket. Football has never received the importance it should have.

Until the Ambani Family came up with the idea of ISL. A footballing league for India with veteran foreign players flying over to play with the budding Indian talents also at display.

It was in 2013 that India has it's first season of ISL which was won by Atletico De Kolkata. That was the beginning of a new era for Indian football.

Comparing the standards of European football to that of ISL is unwise. But the level of Football has started improving and is growing by leaps and bounds over the past years.

https://www.quora.com/Why-are-Indians-more-interested-in-foreign-football-leagues-while-they-dont-show-much-interest-in-the-ISL-which-is-happening-in-their-own-country

Pls, take note that the Indian league just started in 2013.

This is one of the reasons I said most of our NPL clubs should be sold to Nigerian billionaires.

Chinese urge for football can't be compared with that of Korean and Japanese some few years ago.

Maybe they like watching football but not to make a career in it.

Remember, Chinese are restricted from having not more than one kid and this is why they make sure their only one boy gets educated till university level or groom them in the sports they are dominant at at the world stage.

I have met thousands of Chinese too in gatherings but hardly do you see them play ball.

It is just recently the government developed a policy to make China the biggest footballing nation by 2030 or 2050.
[/quote

No doubt Indians love their cricket but you are underestimating the allure of football to them. Even if it's only 10℅ of Indians that follow soccer that is still a massive 100 million people. It's like their religion we all know that Indians are mostly Hindus but because of their large population any tiny percentage that profess christianity will run into millions. We cannot say why india is not good at football but definitely its not due to lack of followership.

You forget china qualified for the world cup in 2002 so the interest has always been there and like I said their women were a force in the 90s

Kelechi's record does speak for itself... 8 goals and 4 assists in 14 games for the Super Eagles. I think we should just take it easy with them.

Iwobi too... Four goals and 3 assists I think (will document it better with time) in as many games. He has also grown to be very influential in the current Super Eagles and the system we play which make us really dangerous customers

Iwobi should start playing like a top player, simply. He needs to take up more responsibility and stop hiding around the field like we cant see him. He needs to raise his game and counted.

Kelechi Iheanacho did not flop against South Africa. Our midfielders could not give him good services. His play was okay. To the best of my knowledge, Slimani did not have a shot on target against Fleetwood but Puel confirmed my earlier position. He had a good game.

You can not blame the striker for little to no services.

Nerd, I am not being too harsh after all Iwobi is from my neck of the woods ,so, I cant destroy my own. However, some people just have a different way of dishing out their criticism. Maybe I have bad memory but apart from his input in the second half against Zambia remind me which match Iwobi had a fantastic game for Nigeria.

On Kelechi, take away the goals because we all know he is a "tap in merchant" and tell me how he has improved.

Oga , you should be tired of defending Kelechi about now. Was midfield the reason he cant also trap a danm ball ? His first touch is so bad he created a goal against his time.

Question; how do you see Arsenal's second goal?

Was it a world class assist?

Was it a defence splitting pass?

If it is was, why didn't it get to Welbeck direct?

Would Welbeck have had a chance to score if the goalkeeper was experienced enough to push the ball away instead of trying to catch the ball?

I am asking because someone said it was world class assist. Nothing more.

Where the hell did you read assist from or are you just a negative critique by reflex. Scan and show me the assist Biko.

TheGoodJoe:

GOAL! Nottingham Forest 3-2 Arsenal (Welbeck 79)

Out of nothing, Arsenal are back in this! Clanger from the goalkeeper Smith.

Iwobi plays a slide-rule pass through to Welbeck, Smith is favourite to win it as he comes out of goal, but he fails to gather it, and Welbeck sidefoots the loose ball into an empty net. Smith is furious with himself!

From Guardian commentary.

I am baffled with the negative criticism Iwobi is getting. If I did not watch the game, it will be as if Iwobi did nothing for 90 mins. Out of nothing, Iwobi created scoring opportunity after giving a Kevin De Bruyne kind of pass that split the Nottingham Forrest defence into two and Welbeck scored the goal. If Kevin De Bruyne or David Silva gave that pass, there would have been a party to celebrate it. Instead Iwobi is getting sticks. Those Arsenal bloggers tearing Iwobi are ingrates.

That pass came from deep which highlights how Iwobi dropped deep to help the team.

Iwobi was fantastic against Togo in the friendly. He had two assists that day. Practically unplayable.

Iwobi was also pretty good against Algeria in Uyo. He did have a very decent first half.

Against Egypt too.... That little cameo of Iwobi in Kaduna that brought about that ingenious pass to Victor Moses which Moses flunked. It ended 1-1.

And in Alexandria... Iwobi came in the second half and the Egyptians were gasping for air and praying for the game to end. We lost 1-0.

That is four games off the top of my head. wink

On Nacho, he has scored two worldies for the Super Eagles.... In fact, make that three coz of that freekick. Is he still only just the tap-in merchant?

Dude has four assists for Nigeria. Does that not speak about Nacho's Vision and keen eye for the final pass? Haba

People are here pushing him to the midfield, Kelechi that can barely complete a run before he runs out of breath. He has the vision of a midfielder but not the stamina. Watch Argentina vs Nigeria and see how Mikel plays that midfield with so much grace and excellence ,on top of that he pressed more than our 2 youngsters, Nacho and Alex

What is trap the damn ball? You should have points to defend your negative criticism than saying trap the damn ball. My point is simple. Even without Slimani having a shot on target, his coach pointed out he had a good game. Just like I said a long time ago Iheanacho would have skinned the South Africans alive if we could deliver good passes in that game. You can not blame the attacker for that.

Sorry, I didnt see the Togo match, so I cant rate him. Forget about that Uyo encounter because the only thing I remember of him was a few good touches and he was quickly hauled off in the second half. He has a decent game against Egypt but from there on its been downhill for Iwobi, except that Zambia rescue.

As for Nacho, like Pep said he is a natural scorer but thats just one aspect of a striker. Nacho is not growing, matter of fact it looks like he is out of ideas. I wish him the best.
