Why does this convo look like a dance? cheesy We are just flowing.... smiley

That Conductor of the orchestra is the man we must protect and ensure that by all possible means, he is battle ready and super fit for the world cup. He is indeed the key. Yes! Mikel is the key.

I know you have fallen in love with the combo of Mikel behind Iwobi and Iheanacho. But understand that we should not have it as our obvious strategy. We don't want to look predictable to the enemies now, do we? grin

So let them guess... Keep them guessing. This Mikel-Iheanacho-Iwobi combo is like the secret mjolnir we are taking to Russia.
But again, in Ighalo, Victor Moses and Simon moses, we also have another hammer blow strategy. It is a good thing, Chief, to be armed in so many ways... Hahahahahahahahaha... This is exactly what makes our team very dangerous even as underdogs.

3-5-2, 4-4-2, 4-2-3-1, and 4-3-3 are the most potent formations this current team can execute and blow teams away with, in unpredictable fashion. We will get there... But yes the music and melody... The beautiful symphonies heard, seen and taken in when the Mikel-Iheanacho-Iwobi piece begins and is in flow, are simply orgasmic and full of "encore moments". But let that beautiful piece be just one among so many we wish to perform on the grand stage of Russia 2018.

Icon4s:

Bring in another class act in the person Mikel to conduct the Orchestra.

I need that combo of Iwobi-Iheanacho upfront with Mikel behind again.

Let's set up a 4-4-2. With no Central recognized striker. Iwobi and Iheanacho seem to do most of the demages from or close to the edge of the box. We play them as false 9 and they, alternately, can equally fall deep to support the midfield.

The false 9 tactics used against Argentina could serve us better than playing a number 9. We can switch it up depending on the game.

Yeah, that can be very deadly such that when you are in attacking position you can pose a 4 attackers threat as the wing forwards can easily wreck havoc too. You saw how Musa stretched the defense before laying the pass to Iwobi for the 4th goal.

Though it was played as 3-5-2 in that game but such can also be played in 4-4-2. 2 regular FBs, 2 CBs, 2 Regular Wingers, 1 DM, 1 CM, and 2 false 9.

I am just being real about my feelings about my expectations for the tourney and he won't let me rest.

For people that have doubts about the abilities of the Russia bound Super Eagles we have given them enough reasons why we have Faith in that team.

Well, Basco came for the chop.... wink And he typed broken record...

He was only hammering on the fact you repeated exact same thing before the Wafu. That is not showing enough faith in the team.

But then, Chief, You now went as far as discrediting his support for the national team om the local front saying he only started showing support because of Odey... To be frank, Dad I think that got to him a bit... And I think as the good dad that you are to me, you should maybe find a way to let him know you didn't mean to discredit his stand as a true and bonafide local front supporter of Nigeria for the clubs or national teams... Biko Chief... Biko...

For me, that is what I think is dragging all this.... sad I hope you listen to me Dad. cry

Based on what I have seen so far in Championship games this season, it's not what you are always trying to make it seem.
I have the luxury of replaying those games. No one can say something over and over again and think they can brainwash me into believing it. Please stop hyping the Championship.

The next thing you will say is, you go in person to watch these games. But when I ask if you go to watch other games outside England, you switch over to your league ratings argument, and the number of top level players you know that have moved from league C to the Championship.

Sir, I have been impressed with the few games I have seen in the dutch league. Very high level IMO. my friends don't follow the opinions of people who don't actually watch these leagues. I will be taking out more time to watch other leagues this year, and will call out anyone out who just make unreasonable generalizations.

If you want to compare, watch them and compare.

I just hope some of us will say something new this year. Let's see some growth.

MODIFIED
Nevermind the argument. I always knew it was your biased opinion, as you rightly admitted.

komekn:

And there are those who think the Championship is ewah and dodo.

What I have said is the EPL is the most competitive league in the World. The championship is its first cousin and the gulf is there but not as huge as some may think.

For instance the Bundesliga has been dominated by one club for near two decades. The Scottish league by Celtic for almost a decade. La Liga not so much and Seria A as well.

It's in this regard I look at the championship as being on par or superior competitively not necessarily technically to leagues that are ranked below the top 5.

I would say the lower half of the Bundesliga is on oar with the Championship my biased opinion.

somehow:
Since both are his clubs, that shouldn't be that hard.

Alampasu that is €90k is even more expensive than about 2-3 of their (oyinbo) players which are around €45, €60k and €68k.

How much can those ones be receiving as salary?

The list our NPFL players have been sold can't be less than €100k, yet you think otherwise.

Go and check the value of some of our players that left the NPFL, check the prices they bought them.

What is the incentive of playing in Nigeria? Would it improve their career prospects? Would it improve their playing ability? At least from Feirense, they can join a better side, they have more visibility.

Also if you want them, you will not be paying the same as Feirense. You will pay much more for them to even consider it.

For Instance, Players go to China because they will earn far more than in Europe. This makes up for whatever shortcomings the chinese league might have in terms of quality.

True. But not when such opinion subtly reduces the genuineness of one's support for a team. Sir, please permit me... I think Sir Basco was only attacking your skepticism with the CHAN team as seen first before the WAFU Cup and now before the CHAN proper. I don't think he doubts your genuine support for Nigeria as a whole. He only particular about the CHAN team.

I am not defending him... I am just saying I too may feel bad if someone tells me that I only started supporting the local team when Stephen Odey came into the picture. Well... Just saying Chief. smiley

You know you are one of the most influential ones here. Lots of Ghostreaders here take your comment as law sometimes. They respect you Dad. No kidding. This is why I am persisting in you understanding that what you said about Basco may have given off some bad vibes after all... Please I know you understand me. It is well.

If only Sir BascoVanVeli had not jumped in and called yoir comment a broken record. sad But I am almost sure he meant that as a way of debating with you about the team's possible chances at the CHAN.

Chief... It is well oooo. wink

See, my brother, don't take things we discuss here too personal.

Broken record or Broken CD, or what ever. The national team belongs to us all. Nobody here, at least none that I know of, will wish that any Nigerian team should lose in any competition. Get that straight.

If you talk about passion, patriotism, or contribution I once shared here that I lectured the Manu 2013 boys on the effects of indiscipline on a young player's career.

I did it for free! Including my flights and hotel arrangements.

Iheanacho, Musa Mohammed,Benerd Bulbwa, Musa Yahaya, Awoniyi, Ibrahim Alhasan, "picture boy", the two Nwakali's are some of the faces that registered in my memory from that meeting I think Ndidi, Alampasu and Uzoho too. I think i have shared one of the pictures here. When I look at the level of discipline in those players I smile every day because I know I have contributed at least in one way to the development of Nigerian football.

Nobody gets a penny richer here by winning any debates. We are just here to chat, get informed and very importantly have fun. Debates here are no do or die. False allegations or not you just have to prove the allegations wrong in a civilised manner.

I try as much as possible to forget my age when I discuss here so as not to place any barriers.

So just take it easy young man. We are all going to support the CHAN team with or without Faith. If I don't support the Nigerian team which team then do I support? It is my utmost wish, just like every one here, that the boys come back with the trophy. And if they don't, don't expect anyone coming here to shout " I told you, I told you".

I sincerely do not hold anything against you. I perfectly understand how you feel. But u just have to be strong bro. Don't let little things like these get at you easily. I don't know if you are married and with family. Maybe by then u will understand that bantering received on nairaland should be the least of your worries

The June 2nd friendly vs England will probably be the last opportunity for fringe players to impress Rohr before he turns in his final 23-man list to FIFA. In fact, June 2nd is the deadline for teams to submit their final squad lists to FIFA.

Yes. And it is a sensible move by both teams. They would not want to risk serious injury happening to a key player a week, or even days before the tournament.

I will bet that Iwobi will score the first ever Nigerian goal in matches between both sides. cheesy The only goal scored, so far, was by Platt in the 94 game.

Nigeria Play Out Goalless Draw With Cameroon In Friendly Match

Cameroon held Nigeria to a 0-0 draw in a friendly match in Rabat on Wednesday night.

The game took place at the Moulay El Hassan Stadium.
The CHAN Eagles certainly had enough possession, but failed to create any clear cut chances in front of goal.

The 2014 African Nations Championship Bronze Medallists were out of sorts as the several chances the CHAN Eagles had were fluffed with Gabriel Okechukwu the chief culprit.

The Eagles played with no urgency in their play as they approached the game as an ordinary match.

Nigeria started the second half on the front foot but that desire was at no point translated into chances.

And sensing danger coach Yusuf Salisu threw on Ibrahim Mustapha, Emeka Ogbuh and Sunday Faleye .

Still with three strikers on it was Faleye who had the most impact, driving the team forward with Ogbuh and getting stuck deep into tackles.

Ultimately it didn't make much of a difference. The Eagles will open their 2018 Africa Nations Championship (CHAN) campaign on Monday 15th January against Rwanda.

They will take on Rwanda (hosts of the last edition of the competition two years ago) at the Stade Ibn Batouta on Monday, 15th January, starting from 7.30pm (8.30pm Nigeria time), before games against Libya at the same venue on Friday, 19th January (starting from 4.30pm; 5.30pm Nigeria time) and Equatorial Guinea in Agadir on Tuesday, 23rd January (starting 7pm Morocco time; 8pm Nigeria time).

How The CHAN Eagles Lined Up: Ikechukwu Ezenwa (Oladele Ajiboye 49'), Osas Okoro (Ifeanyi Nweke 67'), Daniel Itodo (Ikouwem Utin 80', Orji Okogbue (Timothy Danladi 83'), Musa Abdullahi, Emeka Atuloma (Stephen Eze 56'), Ifeanyi Ifeanyi (Nura Mohammed 90'), Rabiu Ali (Ekundayo Ojo 70'), Austine Oladapo (Ibrahim Mustapha 54'), Anthony Okpotu (Sunday Faleye 56'), Gabriel Okechukwu (Emeka Ogbuh 56')
Subs Not Used: Theophilus Afelokhai, Daniel James, Eneji Moses

Gareth Southgate on securing the Nigeria and Costa Rica friendlies:

"We've mostly played European opposition up to now and the Brazil game acted as a reminder that we need to challenge ourselves in different ways as a team.
"We're going into a World Cup where we will play African and Central American opposition so we get that with the games against Nigeria and Costa Rica.
"But it's not just about the games we've got in the group stages, but hopefully beyond that as well. We want to expose the team to different styles and different experiences."

Russia 2018: Rohr excited over England’s friendly

Super Eagles Technical Adviser, Gernot Rohr is excited at the news of a pre-World Cup match between his team and the Three Lions of England at Wembley on June 2 as he continues to try out players that will make the final list for the Russia 2018 World Cup.

Describing the Gareth Southgate-tutored English side as presently constituted as a very strong side, Rohr who recently said only players who have enough playing time with their clubs will make his team said the Wembley encounter would help him test the readiness of his squad.

“This is good news for myself and the entire team. England is a very strong team presently and I believe they will give us a very good match. We will be able to test our readiness for the World Cup when we meet the Three Lions at Wembley.”

The match will be only the third between both countries at senior level, and will serve as the Super Eagles’ final preparatory game for the FIFA World Cup finals in Russia, with their first match against Croatia in Kaliningrad coming exactly two weeks after.

NFF 1st Vice President and Chairman of the Federation’s Organizing Committee, Barrister Seyi Akinwunmi said, “The match is now confirmed. We had been doing a lot of work in the background, even going back to last year.
Now, we are happy to say that it is all sealed. Certainly, it is going to be a big match, between two countries of remarkable historical affinity and similarities. We have other matches and programmes for the team, and we will soon roll out the entire plan for matches, camping sites and training camps.”

Akinwunmi added: “We decided to be strategic in our choice of opponents for the Super Eagles leading to the World Cup, and in total agreement with the preferences of the Technical Adviser. That is why we opted for England. We played Argentina (in November 2017) without even knowing we were going to be in the same group at the Finals.”

Subs Not Used: Theophilus Afelokhai, Daniel James, Eneji Moses

lol he is not so bad but I just don't feel he did enough to warrant an invite, then again a 16 year old who has never played in the NPFL made the team so what do I know?

somehow:
Incentives? Some of them are even 30 years old.. incentives ke.

Seems you skipped where I said he owns both clubs so most of what you're saying wouldn't count here.

So He owns both clubs, does that mean that the players will be willing to play in Nigeria?

The owner of a club does not determine a player's decision. There is no incentive to play in Nigeria if it is not financially rewarding at the very least because it does not do anything for their career.
