Yep. When it comes to hip hop S/Africa is leading. Nigerian artiste aren't really doing hip-hop, they are majorly interested in Afro-pop using Afro beats. That's why rappers here in 9JA are not as popular like there pop doing counterparts.
Afro music sells more here than rap music

You're the only sensible person on this thread. Nigerians are too emotional. Casper said nothing but the truth. There's no rapper/hip hop artist in Nigeria right now. It's sad. 'Talk about it' is among the last set of hiphop album in nigeRia

There's nothing African about their hip hop. American wannabes. When the likes of Ghanaian and Nigerian rappers infuse African terms and cultures into their style, these one won dey rap like Americans. I'd rather listen to the originators and not the copycats.

He is right. How can we dominate rap when we celebrate wack noisemakers like olamide, phyno, lil kesh and small doctor? People who can't even string to proper English sentences together and whose only expertise is coming up with stupid and vulgar slangs. This mediocre rappers can't even get beyond west Africa with their rubbish music. We relegate real talented rappers like M.I to the background and celebrate quack rappers and expect to be taken serious by others? It can't work
ah disagree about MI he did it to himself he stopped releasing music even "the chairman" wasn't that good he is no longer as good as he was during his mi2 days.

I doubt it bro. Even VEC has gone singing. Lol. His last album dude was seriously singing.

MI has been trying to bring back hiphop lately but you see people like CDQ mocking him and telling him to go make money lol

I doubt if anybody will be interested in doing hiphop in naija anymore. As for most, it's all about money not passion

Yeah right, that's coz South Africans couldn't export their original sound (south african house) to the world adequately, so they keep imitating the foreign hip hop culture, but they'll never do it like our black brothers there. But we in Nigeria have a sound and we have exported it successfully to the world. The sound is AfroBeat, and no other place will ever do it better than us. We will never be second best coz what we do is originally ours, it's like saying any country can outdo Jamaica in reggae/Ragga Dancehall. Keep your fake rap/hip hop. We will keep our original AfroBeat. cool

There's always a tendency for S.A to measure with Nig being the dominant force in the continent.
But why compare with Nig in Rap when Nigerians are not Rapping?
Nigerian artistes are playing Nigerian stuff not imitating Americans. Lots of our artistes at the beginning of music revolution in early 2000s were rapping and Eedris Abdulkareem and Rugged Man made waves, Not any more.
S.A. guys shouldn't be measuring their height with us.
