Hello, I am an Art student working on a film about the loss of language. I need some help translating my poem into Ibibio...can someone help me out? The script is pasted below. Thanks!! " My tongue has been stolen " As well as myself " My mother tongue " So I became an alchemist for the sake of my own identity I lost my father in this language I lost my youth I lost myself I will cause the loss of others Words translated to sound translated to music translated to dance Dance to mourn the loss of understanding I danced as best as I could I never asked to learn my language So I learned regret in English My voice is only comfortable in English But English, is the only language I have ever lied to myself in. Sometimes the truth tastes better in a different language. words are the only thing that will not disappoint even if they are lies, their meanings remain the same It is hard to cry in a language you do not understand I spent many years fanning the flames with my tongue I had a dream I was yelling at god in the mirror and she yelled back the world does not stop moving because someone has died Easy to fall in love with but hard to love This is what they call me They also call me joy there were many nights I almost drowned, but the rocks would not remain in my pockets 1. body language 2. love language 3. loss as a language 4. verbal language 5. physical language 6. paralingual language 7. pain as a language 8. semantic language 9. emotive language 10. untranslatable language By the way the words fall out of my mouth you can tell there was never a home for it there Have you ever mourned for the loss of something you never had Mourned because it will remain lost |
