Federal Govt Begs SSANU, NASU, NAAT To Suspend Strike

The Federal Government has pleaded with the Non-Teaching Staff of the Nigerian Universities to suspend the three months strike they embarked upon since Dec.10 2017.

Sen. Chris Ngige, Minister of Labour and Employment made the appeal in a statement signed by Mr Samuel Olowookere, Director, Press in the ministry on Tuesday in Abuja.

There had been conciliatory meeting with the Non-Teaching Staff of Nigerian Universities called at the instance of the minister.

The Non-Teaching Staff of Nigerian Universities operating under the acronym Joint Action Committee, JAC are made up of the Non Academic Staff Union of Nigerian Universities (NASU), Senior Staff Academic of Nigerian Universities(SSANU) and National Association of Academic Technologists, (NAAT).

JAC had accused the Federal Government of breaching the agreement entered with the unions in Sept. 2017 that had led to the suspension of the strike the unions embarked on.

The minister said that the current administration was taking steps to permanently resolve all outstanding matters that disrupt academic activities in the universities.

He also said that measures were being taken by the government to settle the trade dispute with the Joint Action Committee.

He, therefore, appealed to them to call off the strike.

Mr Samson Ugwoke, JAC Chairman, said that the Federal Government had called for the reconciliatory meeting to plead with the unions to call off the strike.

Ugwoke said that JAC would summon a meeting tomorrow to brief its members with a view to calling off their strike.

The meeting which had the leadership of the unions and the officials of the Federal Ministry of Education in attendance deliberated exhaustively on all the outstanding issues raised by the unions.

Good Morning.

Resuming March 25 is beginning to seem more unlikely. March 25 is just 2wks and 4days away. Mind you,I'm not saying it's impossible 2 resume on dat date but you'll agree with me it's quite unlikely. We haven't even done clearance not to mention hostel balloting. So,let's be realistic.

Hello, good evening dear one.

How are you doing today?

You have been on break for so long, say like 9 months. That's enough time for a child to be conceived and delivered.

Astounding, don't you think?

So you have been impregnated with so much expectation, desires mounting, anxiety protruding, and right now it's like you're about to explode. I mean, you just want to resume into UI now.

It's expected, your Due date is at the door.

But before you go into the Delivery room my dear, let's get you prepared for a smooth delivery. ‍⚕‍⚕

*NOTE: I didn't say Labour Room. You're coming into the University of Ibadan to deliver, will you have to push? Well, yes! Normally, It's needed to help the child see the new world. But it doesn't have to be hard.*

Let me show you how Pregnant you are!

Like an expectant mother, especially a first timer (Freshman), you don't know what entering into the delivery room (your department in the University) will feel like. So, its OK if your mind is all over the place. But not worry, you have every reason to be in this delivery room, you are due (satisfied every requirement)!☑

Like any expectant mother, you would have asked questions from those who delivered successfully; how their first experience in that delivery room was and I believe you have gathered so much information. You are even sharing with other Due mothers (Freshmen like yourself). But the truth remains, this is your delivery, this is your child (your dream), you may be pregnant with twins, your baby could be bigger than others.

This is where I am going, you are asking questions like can I start reading or better yet, won't I seem too serious if I want to start reading now?

Well, my dear, your questions are valid, but your answer shouldn't depend on popular opinion, there is just one thing you must ensure, get a proper understanding of what you are about to do, then when all the facts are down.
Make your decision!

I hope you know you won't have class teachers any more and usually your classes will be so large your lecturers may not be able to establish any kind of personal relationship with you, except you make the move.

There are 5 things a Due Mother should do before entering the delivery room.

° Manage her emotions, stay in control no matter what.

° Take deep breaths occasionally, Relax my dear.

° When it's time to push, give it your best push.

° It may take a couple of “pushs", feel free to retreat to make a strong come back. Trust me, you're making progress.

° I hope you have been listening to the doctor all along!

What are you even pregnant with?

*Your Dreams my dear, if a woman with a unicornate uterus (half a womb) can deliver normally and smoothly, then you definitely can too*

Here is a group below of fellow Due Mothers (Freshmen) like yourself and other Motherswho have been in and out of this Hospital (the University of Ibadan) and the delivery rooms (our various departments).

We can give you the support you need.

Feel free to share with any freshman resuming into UI that you know.
