I sited a Sienna 2000 model at Jiji online market @ 500,000 with d name and phone number of d seller. His name is Agbo great and destination is Borno to Enugu. I rang him and showed my interest on d vehicle and he told me that I have to deposit some money for transportation and expenses. Within a short while, I got a rnotification from Jiji stating their Acc number. I paid into d account and later called d seller who said that he has confirmed d money and by tomorrow which was 12th March, they will be coming down to Enugu. Uptill now, I haven't heard from them nor seen d vehicle. Pls nairalanders, has anyone experienced such before and how did u handle d situation cos I think Jiji Online Market is a scam.

Jiji is no scam, you only fell for such a cheap one! How would you pay money in advance in an online trading platform without a kinda escrow or buyer protection? You neglected this from Jiji:

NEVER PAY BEFORE PURCHASE
Try to meet at a safe, public location
Check the item BEFORE you buy it
Pay only after collecting the item

A family van with a 1MZ engine, that is probably a 1998-99 model, that is sound enough to drive all the way from Borno state to Enugu, a journey of almost 1,000km for N500,000

The notification you think you got from Jiji was not from them, it's still the scammers playing a smart one on you.

Jiji does not offer any escrow services and they have no input in your negotiations with seller, theirs is just to provide a platform to connect buyers with sellers, just like NL

Thing is : you are not very conversant with the way they perpetrate online car sales scam else you won't fall for this, this is textbook format, it's a good thing you've wised up now

Jiji is no scam, u just didn't do your due diligence, they are even ten times more effective than NL in terms of car sales, just make sure u don't pay a dime for a car you've not seen physically next time

You have been scammed. Jiji is not scam. Some sellers are like the one you met. Learn from this. You fell for a well known scamming format. Where did you say you are living that you aren't away of that format?

Forget about being excessively lucky when buying a car. Sellers are not stupid. If it's excessively cheap, there is something fishy somewhere. Nurse your wound and move on. Such is life.

Anyway at least you have the account information and the SMS and other communication between you and them. Save all of those, you may want to make a report with the police and open an investigation. The account info ties the scam to a specific individual. That’s a good place to start.

Though frankly it may be better for you to cut your losses and learn from your mistakes.

Sharing your thoughts and opinions as if they are in anyway useful. Better spend the little brainpower you have on taking care of your hurricane of an existence. Let the grownups deal with grownup things.

How long can you tell stories, how you are deceived ? What happened to you is only your responsibility! Especially for such as you, JIJI wrote instructions and they clearly written ,,MONEY BEFORE DO NOT PAY,, !! If it's hard to remember, write down on your forehead.

Do you really believe that he paid money for nothing? Suspicious and banal situation in which even a child did not give any money ! In my opinion this is another troll who is trying to slander JIJI ! undecided

Better go to your bank for them to place a red alert on that account you deposited money into so they can revert your money for you and if possible involve EFCC in this case. This is pure scam.

Nobody said he or she paid 500,000. The issue was with the intention to get the vehicle for 500,000. How much she paid is not part of her story.
