Just one month revenue allocation for Delta State can build 10 of this Kano project. But their governors will never never do it. They prefer to buy 5 Star hotels abroad.

Enough of these 'transport infrastructure'.... give us what we want....
The good roads in Akwa-Ibom are now serving as sites for photoshoot for the 'JOBLESS YOUTHS'.

Kano is even better for this kind of development....
Re: Kano Longest Underpass Ready For Use (video, Pictures) by Obi1kenobi(m): 3:09pm On Apr 18, 2018
The remarkable thing is not really these projects, but the shrewd, prudent use of funds. The projects are usually cheap compared to whatever is conceived in the South. And they still end up being of better quality. A state like Bayelsa has to start asking themselves how with a Federal allocation almost double Kano's and the smallest population in the country to enjoy that big money, they can't point to serious infrastructural progress. Of the 4 major oil-producing states of the Niger-Delta, only Akwa-Ibom starting under Akpabio have "tried" given the huge resources at their disposal.

great But how come this costs 1.2bn and that of Dangi costs 4bn. That was what I was saying, the Dangi one is grossly inflated.

Wrong Priority - yes. But , at least they have a priority. Show me the projects from other states, especially the South South States with huge monthly allocations.

This is why you guys are stuck in 1459

This one too is two in one underpass and roundabout. The only difference is the small single Lane short flyover. Also the underpass at Bukabo is way longer.
Bros I have seen the two designs and have been to the two sites, plus I am an engineer. So I tell you that Dangi site is highly inflated at about 3.5 times the cost of this particular project. At worst let it cost double, but not 340% increment!

1.2 billion will take ALL the almajiris off the streets of Kano metropolis. The fact that you even can compare humans to a road shows how warped your thinking is. No reasonable person can ever place infrastructure before human beings.

I just checked your profile - try to live up to your own credo.

Is it that difficult for you to get your points across without resorting to insults?

You really underestimate how much it'd cost the government to get the almajiris off the streets.

I don't have the numbers, so don't know what the said amount can do.

But do you honesty believe that money will be enough to sustain them long-term?

Have you even thought about the the battles it'd take to get those guys off the streets?

The imams, religious angle and all? What you're doing is asking the government to engage in a toilsome, long-drawn-out battle that could end up costing them more than they bargained for.

Something could be and should be done about it, but not with #1.2b and definitely not at the expense of capital projects.

Imagine losing people to bad roads because you are saving money to get almajiris off the streets.

Beats me how you came to the conclusion that by that statement, I value infrastructural development over the human one.

Almajiris have been there since long. That never stopped Kano from developing.

Besides, taking them off the streets has never been a money issue. Were it so, 1.2b sure won't be enough.

Different project scales. If anything, I still thought that Dangi project was cheap. If Delta state were building it, it'd cost N40billion, instead of N4billion. grin

Kano is building a 1.2 billion underpass and yet they have almajiris everywhere. Do these guys reason at all ?
This is wicked and inhumane.
You just spoke my mind. I am really embittered watching these foolish waste of scarce resources on a low priority project. The Northern Region is one of the poorest regions in Nigeria. There are beggars everywhere. Imagine, the number of schools that 1.2 Billion Naira will build or upgrade, same goes for hospitals and housing. Shame on whoever feels this is worth receiving any accolades.

you have said it all. taking the almajiris off the street is as simple as the state government enacting a law against it and jailing parents and the malans who profit from it and thats all. trust me, the solution to this problem is not as difficult as many think it is.

The number of standard hospitals in kano cannot be found anywhere in the south. Housing? Maybe you're blind leave ur cage and travel to see 4 urself.

All Kano schools around the 44 LGA have been upgraded by former governor Kwankwaso, so take ur trash somewhere else.

its quite unfortunate. the almajiris you see on the streets are mostly boys, for the girls, they get shiped to one hajiyas house where they slave for a long time with peanuts as wages, even the money paid for thier service they dont see it, straight to thier parents and thats it. the government needs to step up and crackdown on this almajiris issue and girl child slaving because the only people who profit from it are the parents and the malans. the society is at a loss because alot of them turn out be hardened criminals because they are raised on the streets. remind me of the saying that WE CREATE OUR OWN MONSTERS

All you had to do was make your point.

1) Name 5 standard government owned hospitals in Kano State (Aminu Kano Teaching Hospital doesn't count)

2) On housing ; even Federal Government is struggling with affordable housing for the masses so what exactly is your point.

3)If you think I meant renovation when I said 'upgrade', please get your head out of the clouds.

Kano state has an IGR of N53bn while its debt profile stands at N200billion.

btw; I was in Kano last year, I drove along the by - pass on my way to katsina. I don't work for any politician or political party by the way. I know you might be thinking I am speaking against your governor, in actual sense, I am not. I am only criticizing this so - called laudable achievement.
Bill Gates was in Nigeria recently and openly told your leaders to prioritize human capital development than physical capital development. I know you will also think its false information.

These arguments have the distinct flavor of excuses. Just cut to the chase and admit that almajiris are not a priority of the northern elite.
Better start fighting the battle now. It is either you impose your will on the pre-historic religious clerics or they impose their will on you.
Right now, your region is not much different from Afghanistan, the Pakistani tribal areas, NIger or Chad so it behooves you to wake up and arrest the downward spiral.
Our fathers subsidized you in the past but the coming generation has had enough and won't do so in the future.
That is all I have to say.
