Hello,

I went for the interview. It went well, I guess.
I was asked to provide my bank statement. I didn't take it with me.

I want to ask, is it the inflow and outflow or the amount in the account that matters? Thanks!
congrats Lagos or Abuja?

Walspring:

To go and apply for another undergraduate with 32 no be small thing in 2baba voice.

I'll try to answer this without being a dream-killer. According to your first interview, it went horribly wrong because you simply didn't prepare for your interview. Your answer was too generic, those people are tired of hearing the same things over and over and it gets frustrating for them at a point.

Going back to do the same thing, expecting a different result was just wrong. Changing the embassy isn't going to do much if you're still going to repeat the same mistakes. She kept asking: WHAT has changed? Your answer was self-indicting. Nothing has changed hence the decision also isn't gonna change. If you go again in May, they'd gladly take your application fee and deny you IF you make the same mistake.

Now that we have covered what you did wrong, how do you correct it? First, until there's something significantly different in your application and/or what you're going to say next time you go, please don't waste that money. Secondly, read about your school, your course, the city, the ranking, etc. and use convincing words to show you are a good student who put in work to secure the admission.

Avoid statements like "well known for its well structured curriculum and a high quality research program which aliens to my area of interest", instead, say something original, something that really shows you put in work and have a particular reason to CHOOSE the school, course, etc. Don't just say "my career goals", tell them specifically what your area of interest/career goal is and what about that school/course is going to help you reach that goal and how it's going to do so.

A quick example: I intend to start a poultry business in Nigeria after my studies (instead of I wanna set up a business when I'm back), and ABC university's department of Agriculture is well known for teaching students eco-friendly practices in the 21st century (instead of ABC university's agric dept is ranked highly). I believe learning from a school like that would set me apart from my rivals. (Don't stop there, say something original like because eco-friendly agriculture in Nigeria is non-existent, and you think you'd have an upper hand). Etc. When you keep talking like you know what you're doing, the VO nods and moves to next question.

Always speak like you REALLY know what you're doing and you have a plan.

Finally, PLEASE, make sure something about your application changes before you reapply.

Good luck and I hope you make the right decision.

Wakanda forever lol.

Thank you soo much. , i really appreciate for taking time to reply me, im grateful.I think I'm enlightened the more now.
Now, Like u said about something changing in my application; what can really change..........
And what actually do the mean by that "change" My admission closes by 15th May.
Again, I'm applied for social work department, I still need clue on how to fit in (using an example of the Agriculture plans), so that it can sound convincing.
Thank you...

Hello House,

Do I need to take my personal bank statement to the interview to prove I have additional funds?

I got a fully-funded offer from my school.

Thank you for your time.

And finally, God makes it 4/4. My admission season is OVER!!! I return all the glory to Him. But, please I need advice now. Since this is a PhD offer in General Maths, it looks as if PhD is more convincing to the VO but then UIUC (Master's) is ranked higher than UTA. Please I need possible advice from gurus in the house

The decision is actually yours to make since only you knows your future plans and dreams but however consider the following 1) Funding is highly important, never choose an unfunded offer over a funded one and also consider the living expenses in each city. Doesn't really make sense when you are spending all your stipend on living expenses and you dont have a little to save for raining days 2) Do a Phd because you really want to do it and not because you think VO takes PHD more important than MSc even though that your assumption is not true 3) Future plans: If your plan is to stay over in the US after graduation, a Phd might give you more opportunities, time and paths to green card than a masters, note that very few companies are filling for H1B visa now adays and even getting a company to file is not certain that you will get it. Statistics show that this trump era has the highest number of rejected H1B renewal and highest number of RFEs. 4) Having said all that, I don't really know the math ranking of schools but I know UIUC is a top 10 Engineering school and I am a fan of top ranked schools, so if I were you my mind will be tending towards UIUC. All the best

Here are the rationale behind your denial.

You fumbled at the point the VO asked you how many schools you applied to. You should have simply said 3 or more. Most VO's attribute your genuineness to the number of schools you applied to. The worst he/she would have asked after that would have been 'why did you chose ABC school over the others '.

Also as a genuine student who doesn't have any ulterior motive, you should be able to provide reasons for which you chose a particular school and course of study which you did but in a wrong manner. The answer you gave was a well know verse. VO's hear it every passing day. Too generic, rephrase your answers and prepare like your life depends on it. Wish you luck in your next shot.
