YorubaAssasin: Brooss, $1500-$2000 to fix that car?? Na wa o are they changing the entire car? To change the entire damaged parts I'm seeing there (bonnets, headlamps, radiator, complete leg with shock, pads maybe tires etc if needed) shouldn't cost more than 150-200k. Add whatever engine parts that also need changing and that shouldn't gulp more than another 100k at most, plus 50k for panel beating/welding/painting. And note these are even dealers who would definitely look for the cheapest priced parts and pay for the cheapest labour possible to cut costs by any means. Except they're also buying a new engine and gearbox, then that car shouldn't gulp more than this. My view 2 Likes |

lawman88: It's a 17 character number. Depicted are the more common locations on the vehicle to obtain the VIN. Sometimes a simple Google search helps, but often a comprehensive report may be necessary. There are various categories of VIN reports with varying levels of details and history. There are a couple of free VIN Autocheck threads lying around, like https://www.nairaland.com/4452448/free-vehicle-history-cars-usa Or you may need a paid VIN check service such as that provided by Computerglobal over in the Autos Section. 4 Likes 1 Share

ogbiwa: I'm assuming it's fixed in the U.S. Again, let's go to the classroom... Hood (Bonnet) - $150 Both Head Lamps (L & R) - $80 each X 2 = $160 Radiator - $250 - $300 Radiator support - $180 AC Condenser (usually attached in front of Radiator) - $200 Radiator fan / Condenser fan - $250 - $300 Front Bumper - $120 Fender (Both sides) - $80 X 2 = $160 Bumper Grille - $70 Driver-side Air-bag - ~$400 All other miscellaneous damages not visible in the attached pix. - Prices Not Included Frame damage that would need to be put on a frame machine to be pulled back to shape (Most important of all the fix) - >$500 All these prices excluding labor cost and paint job. Sir, now do the math! ***Mind you, all these are standardized estimates with ~<2% - 3% error margin*** That's ~$2,440. It's absolutely likely it'll be more than that. Nigeria would definitely be less but with probably less quality materials and professionalism. 2 Likes |

Explorers:/ Good for him. Last bid $275 ==N99,000 Additional fee $1000 ==N360,000 Towing $200 ==N72,000 Shipping $1200 ==N432,000 Clearing - N500,000 ============================================ N1,463,000 ============================================ Misc (?) round up == N1.5m ============================================ Profit N2.2m - N1.5m = N700k You should tell him so that if he is travelling far, he should take it easy on the speed else he may end up dead in a ditch somewhere from broken suspension or others. Final final, they will blame his death on villagers or enemies. /* Side note: When I was in college and using used car sales as side hustle, some people would be pricing cars like tomatoes because their neighbour bought something similar at a reduced price. Thanks to VIN #s, they can now see why a car is sold very cheap. */ Although in this case, your oga got taken. \ 3 Likes |

YorubaAssasin: Ok I understand how you arrived at your price. I see you quoting $250-$300 (N108,000) for a Corolla radiator Little wonder. It's ok you assumed it was fixed in the US, though most posters here have confirmed that they rarely do that. I dare the spare parts guy that would call Corolla radiator for N108,000! Doesn't work that way down here bro. 2 Likes |

The OP is wicked. You think it's easy to buy a wrecked vehicle, salvage it and clear all the papers and ship it to Nigeria then deal with customs etc. He probably helped the owner with getting plate numbers and car registration. Yet you don't want the sellerto make any good money? Sorry ooo. VIN checker. 1 Like |

I don't understand why everyone is castigating the seller. He bought a damaged vehicle, repaired it and sold for profit. It's business. The buyer checked it out before buying. The vehicle is working fine. Everyone is happy. Abeg don't go and ruin the man's joy 7 Likes |

Some people here are defending the seller and saying its just business. The core issue here is transperancy. The seller wasn't honest about the car's history. Even if he fixed it abroad or went to Toyota manufacturing plant to fix it to standard, he still has a duty to disclose this to any potential buyer. If the buyer then decides to buy, then it's business. Honesty pays in whichever business anyone decides to do. And to think that the seller was even claiming it was clean title. SMH! 8 Likes |

YorubaAssasin: Things are done differently here unfortunately (or fortunately, I don't know). And like I said these repairs are done by dealers who are looking for every possible means to cut costs on a car they're even yet to sell and recover expenses! I see you quoting $500 (N180,000) for straightening the bent frame! wow wow wow. You see that 50k for panel beating/welding/painting I quoted? That straightening is inside there for the panel beater. I've seen my panel beater do that for another car right before my eyes, and all he used was a heavy chain hooked to a strong tree trunk We're not all lazy youths down here bro 2 Likes 1 Share |
