walahi, human beings are wicked. I will not advice anyone to buy a vehicle from US without knowing the history. Even if it's a repaired vehicle, the damage should not be this extensive. My neighbour also bought a corolla of this kind 2 weeks ago and every indication tells me it's an accidented vehicle.
I am feeling very sad for the Baba right now. This seems like it happened in Akure. You must tell the Baba and let him involve the police. But there is very little that can be done here. Even at that, 2.2m for a used 2006 camry? How much is 2007 camry or a 2009 toyota corolla? That dealer is a rogue.

Hello, 2006 Toyota Corolla , is 2m-2.2m..Find out, also, that car has no issue a feared on here, the fender, the bonnet and bumper affected has been replaced appropriately, the dealer should have sold 2m, since its accidented.but, a clean title 2006 corolla Is good at 2.2m, ,dont forgey, some agent buys for dealerz here, add up 275+1200+200, then clearing and cost of replacing those parts, bonnet is 65k, alone

Over a year now, the old man has been working to own a 2008 Corolla due to the low fuel consumption.

We both talked about the car several times and because of the price, he went for a 2006.

So papa, a boss and also a father brought this Corolla to the office on Monday with dealer claiming papa is very lucky to get a clean title and accident free car like this.

Congratulations sir! congratulations sir!! everywhere(Civil servant na)

Sir, how much did you get it?

He said over 2.2m.

But i noticed that the bumper, headlamps and the grill are kind of not in line(Space between them).

So i shot the vin, the first picture and brought it to one of my thread for assistance(cosplay).

And i got this result.

Bro, the man that bought the car might be lying. You know we humans are unpredictable and we love to over hype thing and moreover, there are better cars than this 2.2m can buy

Firstly, I need to know what you guys are complaining abt. Are you guys disputing the vehicle salvage status or the final price tag? From what the OP put up there, I think it's reasonable even though it's a very bad deal. IMHO. undecided

The $275 isn't the net/final price sold at the auction. That price is what's called the pre-bidding price prior to the actual auction. After the real auction might have taken place, the final bidding price is likely to surpass the $275. Okay let's assume the final bid price is $275...

The $1K add fee is mandatory but, not necessarily that much. It's usually a % of the total cost + numerous fees (paper-work) added up. So let's assume it's $1K... So, let's do the math...

$(275 + 1,000 + 200 + 1,200) = $2,675 * N360 = N963,000 + N500,000 (Clearing Cost) = N1,463,000

Let's NOT forget, the car was fixed by whoever that bought it... and from the damages I'm seeing, the total fix price to get this to its current shape would be nothing less than $1,500 - $2,000 = N540,000 - N720,000. Let's say it's N540,000 shocked

N1,463,000 + N540,000 = N2,003,000. undecided

Again, this is the minimum net price given the info. provided by OP. So why the hassle... everyone whining upandan. This is one of the numerous reasons I advice folks to rather buy a car in Nigeria than from here in the U.S. The only advantage of buying foreign (developed nation)used cars is proper usability (good roads/dealership maintained etc.. ) and less-salvage value compared to 9ja used. kiss

Though, this is a very bad deal given the extent of damage and cost of repair of this particular vehicle. I expected someone like "Explorers" to have dug more info. before coming out to cry foul. undecided

Brooss, $1500-$2000 to fix that car?? Na wa o are they changing the entire car? To change the entire damaged parts I'm seeing there (bonnets, headlamps, radiator, complete leg with shock, pads maybe tires etc if needed) shouldn't cost more than 150-200k. Add whatever engine parts that also need changing and that shouldn't gulp more than another 100k at most, plus 50k for panel beating/welding/painting. And note these are even dealers who would definitely look for the cheapest priced parts and pay for the cheapest labour possible to cut costs by any means.
Except they're also buying a new engine and gearbox, then that car shouldn't gulp more than this. My view

It's a 17 character number. Depicted are the more common locations on the vehicle to obtain the VIN.

Sometimes a simple Google search helps, but often a comprehensive report may be necessary. There are various categories of VIN reports with varying levels of details and history.

There are a couple of free VIN Autocheck threads lying around, like

https://www.nairaland.com/4452448/free-vehicle-history-cars-usa

Or you may need a paid VIN check service such as that provided by Computerglobal over in the Autos Section.

I'm assuming it's fixed in the U.S. Again, let's go to the classroom... cool

Hood (Bonnet) - $150

Both Head Lamps (L & R) - $80 each X 2 = $160

Radiator - $250 - $300

Radiator support - $180

AC Condenser (usually attached in front of Radiator) - $200

Radiator fan / Condenser fan - $250 - $300

Front Bumper - $120

Fender (Both sides) - $80 X 2 = $160

Bumper Grille - $70

Driver-side Air-bag - ~$400

All other miscellaneous damages not visible in the attached pix. - Prices Not Included

Frame damage that would need to be put on a frame machine to be pulled back to shape (Most important of all the fix) - >$500

All these prices excluding labor cost and paint job. undecided

Sir, now do the math! cool grin ***Mind you, all these are standardized estimates with ~<2% - 3% error margin***

That's ~$2,440. It's absolutely likely it'll be more than that. Nigeria would definitely be less but with probably less quality materials and professionalism. undecided wink cool

The dealer bought a new fender, bonnet, bumper, radiator and steering cover. Panel beater, mechanic and sprayer fee.

I had a feeling it was a similar situation when I saw your request. I just didn't know how dire the situation was.

It beats my imagination how one would witness this and the situation I described in the VIN Tampering thread and still be against the VIN being provided upfront for preliminary investigation.

The elderly gentleman, unfortunately, failed to do his due diligence, for whatever reason, it could simply be a case of poor preparation before purchasing a vehicle in Nigeria.

I have no issues with the price. The seller may choose to ask for 4 million NGN after factoring in repair costs, if he so wishes, as long as he has fully disclosed the history of the vehicle and provided the VIN. Sellers with ridiculous prices often get regulated by market forces after their vehicles sit unsold for long periods due to the high prices.

Make no mistake about it, the bulk of the responsibility lies with the morally bankrupt seller for failing to fully disclose the history of this vehicle and probably for taking undue advantage of the elderly gentleman.

Very unfortunate.

Some people here are defending the seller and saying its just business. The core issue here is transperancy. The seller wasn't honest about the car's history. Even if he fixed it abroad or went to Toyota manufacturing plant to fix it to standard, he still has a duty to disclose this to any potential buyer. If the buyer then decides to buy, then it's business. Honesty pays in whichever business anyone decides to do. And to think that the seller was even claiming it was clean title. SMH!

Things are done differently here unfortunately (or fortunately, I don't know). And like I said these repairs are done by dealers who are looking for every possible means to cut costs on a car they're even yet to sell and recover expenses! I see you quoting $500 (N180,000) for straightening the bent frame! wow wow wow. You see that 50k for panel beating/welding/painting I quoted? That straightening is inside there for the panel beater. I've seen my panel beater do that for another car right before my eyes, and all he used was a heavy chain hooked to a strong tree trunkgrin grin We're not all lazy youths down here bro grin
