A man (name withheld) spent his Tuesday morning lecturing some of his female colleagues about how nature puts women at a disadvantage in the workplace, and advising them to steer clear of top positions and demanding jobs. Instead, he encouraged women to focus on getting married, raising a family and doing less demanding jobs outside of the boardroom, like trading, fashion designing, nursing and teaching.

“A man is more suited for hard jobs, emotionally and physically stressful jobs. Check out some of the women in top positions, there are two things. First, it is either they have connections that make it easy for them or they’ve made some sacrifices in the homefront, which might not be palatable.

“The truth is this, a job like teaching is a good job for women. It is not gender discrimination, it is division of labour. Women are unfit to do certain jobs. Within industries, they work in Admin and Human Resource units but rarely in operations.

“Women should leave companies that are not flexible, why should companies be restructured because of women? A company that is growing and transitioning fast may not be a good fit for women. It is not anybody’s fault, it is the way the society is. Labour laws in general are unfriendly and need to be overhauled, not just for women, but for all workers. It is tougher on women. Women that want to survive in workplaces will have to postpone giving birth or marriage, but you can’t eat your cake and have it.

“There are women that resigned from banks, got married to wonderful men, started trading and buying clothes from Dubai. Did they die?

“I don’t believe women are oppressed, they are the ones who oppress men every day and yet they claim victims. They manipulate men every day.

“There is nothing like sexism, it is just normal, there can never be gender equality, it is unreal and fictitious. His view is incosequential.Everyone claims to know the truth.
We have had women who have excelled in those fields even if they may be few.
Nobody should force or discourage a woman into or from entering such fields.The opinion of others do not matter what matters is your determination and belief in yourself.
His view would not change the view of some women who are interested in such careers or positions.He should stop the gender stereotyping.

This generation women are some naturally selfish creations..When it comes to responsibilities that will take money out of their pocket, they remind us they are women...but when it comes to responsibilities that will put money in their pocket, they want gender equality.

Yes, women are capable of attaining the highest levels pf their career without any help, but a lot of them have risen to top positions because of their connections or favours that they have returned in kind, likewise some men.

I think the way of delivering a message makes it unpalatable.

The reality like he said is woman are at a disadvantage compared to men when it comes to "having it all" i.e family and career.

Some people do no employ women of child bearing age .This is a bitter truth

Women can get to th top of their careers AND also have family but this is very rare indeed.
Increasingly we see kids who have been raised by housegirls with little connection emotionally to their high flying mothers so there is a price to pay but with discipline ,planning and a supportive spouse the sky is the limit. The problem is whether such supportive spouses do exist commonly

However, my problem is with certain females who believe in gender "pay gap" when they are in less lucrative jobs and want firms to pay them same amount as others (who majority of the time happen to be men). Even when these others have put in more working hours, higher qualification and years of experience. But never fight for same "gender pay gap" in sectors like nursing, truck-driving, plumbing etc

Additionally, where these set of men (like the poster) will be wrong is when they exhibit hypocrisy by asking their wives to contribute to the household and to be working so as not to be classified as a liability. You do not discourage her from being engineer on the rig, yet complain that she does not bring enough money to the table.

If you must choose a path, stay on it. Don't change the goal post in the middle of the game.

Might not be politically correct but then a lot of thing written here that are true. Many women have excelled in their chosen career but most of them sacrificed a whole lot of things to achieve this feat. Its the 21st century where children are left at the mercy of house helps and we wonder why society is morally bankrupt. The choice is a very simple one; succeed in career or succeed at home.

PS: There are indeed few women who have managed to succeed at both fronts. Let every woman choose the life she wants to lead.

I didn't read the post because I know the information the man will pass is based on archaic reasoning. The only jobs which place women at a disadvantage are physically demanding jobs, the ones where human muscle is pitted against machine or meant to work in tandem with them.

Jobs today are designed with weakness in mind hence their heavy focus on mental faculties. Women, trained in the same educational institutions as their male counterparts, can work these professions easily and sometimes better than lazy co-workers in the field.

This is not about feminism, imagine if people say you can't get top job or work in companies cos you are a man? sometimes we men get myopic and don't realize these opinions will affect us, how about when you have a very brilliant daughter and she's told all these cos she's a woman? if a woman is capable for top jobs let her have it, it should be about competence first not gender.
