What if your best friend and your lover was AS and you are AS, is that going to prevent you from having kids? Sometimes i laff at some people who stop dating because of AS. Are you certain that your next lover will not be AS?One should know that a quarter of our population have AS at least .

You are totally Off-point. Ability to have kids is not what is being discussed here. Kindly read and understand people's comments before you react to them.

Do you know most of the parents were not aware of their Genotype before getting married?

That is the parents fault .......

One of the 1st things people should do before having babies or getting involved in a sexual relationship, is GENOTYPE CHECK......

Now I am beginning to have hope
Please if you are AS don't marry another AS and bring babies to suffer in to this world. Forget your hope, If i were born an SS knowing fully well my parents knows about these genotype stuffs. I will swear for them.

I am unfortunately an AS, So my number one criteria before entering any serious relationship is genotype. If by joke, direct or whatever means i happen to know your genotype isn't compatible with mine i will just log out before "love" start shacking our brains. Too many bad experiences to let my future children suffer.

Encouraging those suffering from sickle cell is not bad. I can only imagine the reality they find themselves.

However, It doesn't change the fact that 8 out of ratio 10 never get to survive it..... truth is prevention is just the best option. I remember while my younger brother was battling with cancer before his eventual demise. the children ward at LUTH where he was admitted was for cancer and sickle cell patients alone, I cannot count the number of death I witness with my own eyes especially among suckle cell patients. It got to a point my brother was like please let us leave this place, all the friends he made there all died in his presence. He was so scared, not knowing that he's not going to survive the cancer either. families were financially drained to nothing, a woman had to withdraw all her children from school to save just one with all she earn from her little business. so many cases if i should start talking about it.

Abeg forget hope, and prevent the damn thing. Don't even think that you stand a chance at survival, don't try to experience the emotional trauma that comes with it. It's not something you can pray should happen to your enemy. please just avoid it.

I know.
I still don't blame old parents, they had no idea...
My parents married without checking their Genotype; luckily both of them are AA.

Genotype wasn't popular in Nigeria until the late 90s.

I don't agree with your last statement, but would not want to argue with an igwe*3........

But now that we know, some people are still taking the chance, hoping prayers would perform a miracle.....

Stop pulling statistics from your a55, its ideal for an adult to know their genotype at least and request for their partner's before commencing anything called relationship. That love that is shacking you now will turn to hatred when you have to deal with children who are always falling ill and draining your finances.

Prevention is still the best. I can't imagine how much goes to her medical bills, how many families can afford that? Asides that, it is a life of constant pain.

Before you go too far in a relationship, know your genotype, end it before it becomes too difficult, love enough cannot overcome it.

I have seen and heard very loving couples get torn apart because of a sickle cell child.

I have seen a sickle cell patient abandoned at National hospital by his very wealthy parents.

Fact is sickle traits is very common with our people, you do not have to agree with me . All other races have their own and life goes on. Two people dating who have the sickle cell trait does not necessary guarantee they will have a child with SS.
